Hog farm that spilled 1 million gallons of feces, urine into waterways had been warned of lagoon problems

‘Significant’ lagoon breaches are just one problem northern Missouri hog farmer faces

Decades of legal battles over pollution by industrial hog farms haven’t changed much for eastern NC residents burdened by environmental racism

"Legislators and investors were not dissuaded by environmentalists who warned that building a receptacle for huge piles of hog waste filled with hazardous contaminants in a floodplain probably wasn’t the best idea. "

The Chinese.. they bought Smithfield under cover with the intentions of using the genetic technology and nutritional technology to advance their hog production in hopes to gain control over world pork production .. which they have manged to do undercover.. it's kinda scary if you stop and think about it

That figures. A "major overseas conglomerate" recently tried to buy up a lot of rice ground around here. They weren't named but the paper said they already had "significant United States holdings in almonds, citrus, wheat, and pork products.
They weren't able to come to terms on the rice acreage but that doesn't mean that they've given up.

Ok so the pork industry has maure spills once in a while .. you do realize sometimes its due to a act of mother nature .. I know for a fact those lagoons are designed and built to hold 1 years worth of the avg rain fall where they are built .. that doesn't mean that when the lagoon is 70% full and there is a 6" rain that it has to hold it.. and yes due to poor maintenance some fail .. but the DNR steps in and fines the facility and charges them for the clean up cost plus damages to the environment.. but if you feel we should go back to farmer John raising 20 hogs in the cover of his farm because it's more environmently friendly .. you are so wrong and you could not afford to buy your Easter ham either.. so bash away all you like..
You rant is not much different than the Crazy Karen's that scream and yell when ever their a plane crash or a 30 car pile up with big trucks evolved.. should we ban those too ?

He likes to complain about how horrible corporations are and then demand everything be so regulated that only corporations can afford to be in buisness.

I'm not ranting, but you're missing the point.

All I did was point out that not all lawsuits are nuisance lawsuits. And assuming that plaintiffs are cry babies looking for a payout is dumb - whether we're talking about hog farm smells or an aunt sueing her nephew for breaking her arm. Sometimes the only way for redress of grievances is through the court system. In the original link I posted it shows the previous steps neighbor's (who owned their property before the commercial hog farm) had attempted to find a compromise. Those attempts failed, and regulators were not holding the farms in compliance, so it's time for the lawyers to get involved.
