I use to let my 780 volvo idle while I showered in the daytime so the pooch would cook. I was always paranoid of someone stealing it so I wired in a switch on the ishift power. They would never find it and it killed all power to the shifter, wouldnt shift no way. A little piece of mind I guess.
Sell it. I have entertained selling my western star 5700 But since they no longer make them and the new star cars are really plastic fantastic now. W900 and 389 are nice but can’t justify the prices for them. Did I read correctly that the 389 went to digital dash now?. KW dealer did tell me they have started having fleets cancel truck orders as they are afraid of the impending crash of economy
I went from a 359 to a 379. I very much like my electronic cruise control that mech motors don't have. I would never go back to a mech engine for otr.....ever.
I don't know...If you are going to blow all of the profit you make on the sale of the new truck to refurbish the old one, wouldn't it make more sense to keep the new one and sell the old one? I'm sure you can get CRAZY money for that old one right now. And that right there is ALL profit since it's already paid for.
The auction fees will kill him. If he markets it correctly, he should have no problem getting what it's worth. And if he has a contact list of people that want the truck, why the hell would he tell them to get it at the auction? LOL. He pockets more outside of the auction, and the buyer pays less.
8.2 bobtailing? I've gotten that pulling a wagon with 6,000 in it. I get between 6-7 loaded running 65-70. Of course I've hot a Series 60, so that does make a little difference.
What happens if Pete just up and decides to kill production of the 389 and the traditional cabs all together next year? Look how all the auto manufacturers are going woke stupid. The truck builders have proven in the last 10-15 years that they aren't any less dumb.
Seems I have heard that very rumor. 2022 is the last of the Pete hoods. Though I haven’t been able to confirm that with any reliable source
I'm fairly certain within 5 years all the manufacturers are gonna kill off their long Hood trucks. Just makes sense. Ties up alot of resources and production Just to sell a handful of truck every year.
Everyone I grew up with outside of my family thought I was crazy for keeping 95% of of the old used parts from anything we had. I’ve been doing it since 1984 or so. I’ve always said I was keeping them for “Mad Max days”. We seem to be getting there somewhat lately. We have 4 storage trailers full and a 1500sqft loft above shop with the valuable stuff racked and shelved. Wife and I keep it inventoried and computerized. Some of the stuff has been junk because a new parts were always availiable and cheap. In the last six months stuff thats been sitting for over 20 years has become needed. Just yesterday an old blown up single cylinder Cummins NT series air compressor thats been on the shelf for 10-15 years just supplied parts since the part needed is now $700 from china when it used to be $100 from Cummins Genuine.
