The pans. I do not know that I can explain all that so well but you can probably Google that up. 2 stroke Detroit and or Gray Marine air box drains.
They needed to relieve liquid from the air boxes and it just drained outside. Detroit did some different programs. I am tired good night.

OMG !!! This thread makes my silver hair on the back'a'myneck stand up. If this comes true, I want video.
BoxCar covered the run away, take his words as gospel.
DO NOT IDLE. Not even at 900 or 1100. Get an apu.
There will be no parts, and it is highly unlikely you will find any service on the road. So make sure you have very good towing insurance should you break down.
Coolant maintenance is everything. You must have NO CAVITATION in the coolant. Check the condition of the coolant constantly. Ph, nitrates, any sort of contamination, and pay the extra for highest quality coolant. Ask the seller about that. Both the Double O's and the Silvers were awesome engines in their day. It takes a "special" mechanic to set the jakes, but once they are set correctly and you get used to shifting with them, you'll sound and look like an automatic.
