Apparently now according to some people who are dazed and confused they're not sure what construes a 30 minute break so those chuckleheads in DOT/FMCSA have attempted to "explain" it to us as if we can't work it out for ourselves. Of course they had to come up with some clarifying mumbo jumbo, Just another example of a bunch of suits who have no clue about the real world of trucking.
but I've got some criteria that should hone in on what defines a 30 min break....aka the parameters.
no keys in ignition......check
engine off...........check
no receiver or plant in sight......check.
Not sat in drivers seat.........check
laying on bed.optional.........check
ignore banging on door by nosey DOT officer......check
QComm says I'm "off duty" well heck then, I must be. ......check
OK that should be enough "evidence" to those numb nuts that YES, this is our 30 min break time. Now sod off Mr DOT
im busy contemplating my next move. The 30 min break is nothing but a minor load of nonsense dreamed up by uneducated dreamboats within the Govt. they can't get their own house in order, they have no clue what's going on anywhere or at anytime, but do you honestly believe these clowns are going to checkup on us with regard to this especially if we have EOBRS ??? I don't. If they do ill just hand him/her the fancy laminated instructions
and tell them..." Go for it tiger, it's all yours to figure out" ....hang on a minute though!!!
But you will have to wait until I've completed my 30 min break. I'm off duty, remember??djtrype, Bayle, 48Packard and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sot of you wanker, is the proper response to a DOT knock knock knocking during your 30. If I can borrow a phrase from across the pond.

Chip hauling is a job, I load and unload, I get out and climb ladders, I sometimes drop and hook as many as 5 times in a day other times I keep the same trailer for several days.
I get dispatched as many as 4 times a day and never know where I'm going next till I'm empty, could be 2 miles up the road could be 100 miles away.
Some days like today I have to keep up with one mill and keep the bunkers from overflowing, I did 4 trips today hauling chips 100 miles round trip each time and at the end of the day I preloaded two trailers with sawdust and dropped them for other drivers going further south.
The chip and sawdust bunkers have limited capacity and I have to keep up with the flow, if I get behind product goes on the ground and people aren't happy.
Besides the more trailers I load and dump in a day the more money I make, this is very very different than hauling freight.
I get paid a flat rate for loading and for unloading and mileage in between so the more I get done in a day the more I make.
Then as I put out there in another post there is city traffic, having to stop for 30 minutes can really screw me for getting across town and cost me hours.
I rarely drive more than 100 miles at a time, most often it's between 50 & 100 and I'm out of the truck working so it's not like I sit behind the wheel all day as an OTR driver might.
Trust me this thing is just a PITA for those of us doing this type of work, it does us no good at all and in fact adds stress to my day and takes away home time, so how is that any good? -

Give up and let the govt take care of us all, get plugged into the system they are listening already anyway right?;give up your guns and get implanted with a micro chip so they can keep track of you to preserve your well being and that of others.
Privacy is overrated anyway right?...I'm sure they know what's best for me better than I do.
cowboy_tech Thanks this.
