So once you have their app on your phone what's to stop them from tracking you and calling you to offer a cheap load because they see you are in the area? Not all apps completely remove themselves from your phone when deleted it also gives a lawyer another tool to use against you. I know of one very large company that destroys tracking an log information on a daily basis as allowed by law.

We cannot answer that. Only you can.

Do you feel the rate was strong enough to warrant you calling them?

as @rollin coal said above, if you are charging them accordingly ("tracking accessorial fee" already baked in), then by all means, play ball.

A daily check call is one thing, where I'm the one giving the update. I don't need the broker looking at a tracking app showing I'm 30 miles out and giving the receiver a call with a 30-45 minute ETA when I'm stuck in traffic and still needing to grab fuel on my way in only to have the receiver PO'd because they were told I'd be there an hour before I actually arrived and the broker PO'd because their customer thinks I was late despite my rolling in 30 minutes BEFORE I had told the broker I'd be there when I'd talked to him the day before after I'd been loaded.

Want to know when your stuff will be there? Talk to me. Don't look at my location and assume.

Even if I felt the rate wasn't "strong enough" and their ratecon requested a daily check call, I'd still do it. If not, I shouldn't of accepted the load in the first place.

A daily check call in the morning is no big deal. It's common courtesy if they ask for it. I usually just tell them I will be good for my appointment time, followed with a, "if I run into something out of my control, you'll be the first to know."

Really dude, And just out of curiosity, how much would you charge for the convenience? Don't forget you're being tracked regardless by the government. But explain to me please, broker pays you $3200 on a 700 mile load, they require macropoint on it. You.." I'm sorry but I need an extra $100 for you to be able to track me" Him.."well, too bad then". And rightfully so. You don't have your own Authority yet do you? You want to bite off your nose to spite your face. You will learn real fast which battles are worth fighting, and how much nickel and diming will cost you in the long run.

Hardly concerned about post count my man, just felt I had to point out the error in your thinking about charging for tracking. I've read the rest of the thread, seems to bear me out.

Ultimately all of us can charge a blue sky fee if we want. You can charge whatever you want for whatever you want, but you have to get the other guy to agree to it in advance. That last part is where it gets complicated...

    I aint beefing about this.

We've concluded that: if you are getting a good rate OR you've baked in the "tracking fee" into the rate, then this becomes a non-issue.

People complain about low rates, but cant negotiate better rates, and then whine about being tracked.

Absolutely true, and at the end of the day, is it worth the extra angst? If you and the broker can agree on a rate, tracking is a non issue imo. I didn't like it at first, but then realized there's bigger stuff to stress over.
