No, not yet. But I have decided to go with Central Refrigeration for training... hopefully I can pass their wellness test. I am starting to panic about all of it after reading more on here. I know I can do anything for a year if they will give me a chance to try. I take one blood pressure medication and have for about three years so I dont know if that will disqualify me or not. I might have to take more of that but I start on Monday and I can't get in to my doctor until the 18th. Gotta love those doctors :). My blood pressure has been in the normal range though until I started panicking and then it goes up near 140! Ha ha! My husband keeps telling me to knock it off and quit reading these forums until AFTER I am a truck driver. I read one guys experience at Central and almost got scared. I am hoping that it isn't as bad as many say that it is. I just want to work with a company that will treat me fairly and I will give them 110%. It is just the way that I am. I am still excited. I guess if I fail the wellness test I shouldn't be a truck driver anyway. I can lift quite a bit and actually used to lift weights but it has been almost two years since I have seen a gym! I guess I will go down there and just see what happens. I can always go to one of the other schools if this doesn't work out. It sounds like a lot of the training programs that are offered directly by a company try to weed people out... Maybe my husband is right and I am just worrying too much about it. I guess time will tell.

I didn't even answer your question... sorry. Yes I did find out about the tax situation. If they are offering you perdium it lowers what they pay into your social security, retirement and everything else. It is also more difficult to qualify for any type of mortgage (my old life... I am an expert at this). You can write off the perdium based on the number of days that you are out on the road... it is something like $56 dollars a day and you get to take 80% of the $56 off on your taxes. Technically this would also disqualify you from a mortgage BUT the loan officers do not have to ask for your tax returns if you have made the same amount or near the same amount for a two year period. They just need your w-2's. and then will verify with your company how much you are paid and how many miles you average. They will still take a two year average on your miles but then you don't have to write off your food when you qualify for a mortgage... everyone has to eat and they don't make anyone else do that either when they dont' drive a truck. But... there is always a chance that some underwriter will ask to see the tax returns too and so truck drivers are really treated like self-employed people when that happens even if they are company drivers. So it is a catch 22. I ran a tax situation where I was paid .10 a mile perdium and received .20 a mile (this was actually one offer I received). I actually was better off tax wise by $600 in one year BUT what I had contributed and what the company would have contributed to my social security, unemployment etc. etc. was decreased by more than 1/3. This could add up over a couple of years. If you ended up on disability or anything else you would only be paid on the .20 a mile as well. So for $50 a month I decided I would be much better to take the higher pay, pay into social security, disability etc. etc. AND the company would have to pay on the higher amount as well. 401k programs and everything else are affected by the lower amount being paid too. That is just my opinion though. A tax man or woman may have a better one... in fact I am sure they would.
