I wish there was a way i could've accessed this info last week when my truck started giving symptoms of a blown head gasket. I was told the head would crack before blowing the head gasket,so currently having head inspected at machine shop. There was an underlying problem as well with the air compressor leaking water into the internals of the block/head. I needed a good shop or mechanic to be referred to in the Cleveland are,but nobody would give a good reference aside to have a dealership perform the repair.

99% of cat heads are cracked. even the cat remans are getting to be shaved down too much or have hairline cracks which cat deems acceptable.

I bought my head from a shop in Portland. I can't remember what they are called but they build brand new heads. I've had zero issues thus far and I'm running high power and heavy weight. Although my mechanic has a couple tricks he uses too which he claims help out.

From my understanding, Cat went to New Cast heads due to these issues. If you go after a reman your probably going end up with a new cast head. I replace mine last year due to soft valves that was another issue quality had few years back. So before I dropped a valve, I had the head exchange and ended up with a new one.

New cast has been around for a while. There still are issues with them. The quality just isn't there anymore. One boy I know received a new cast head. Didn't last a month before it cracked through the fuel rail. I have been dealing with a place out of michican, R+F Engines. Can buy a brand new head for $3200 no core one year warranty.
