That's a different animal. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. You don't have another option. The OP is about clueless drivers that pull over without an emergency, then barge right into the travel lane without getting up to highway speed.

 

Great post! Something that drives me crazy...these truck drivers who should know better just pull back into traffic from a dead stop. Stupidity.

My dad taught me when I was learning how to drive his ‘76 one ton pick up, you get up to speed on the shoulder - then you merge into traffic. Apparently they don’t teach that in drivers ed, and trucking schools anymore.

 

Oh I could get around them , you wouldn't see me counting rivets on there trailer.

 

Off the top of my head, I can think of three fatal accidents in the last couple years that resulted in the driver and/or trucking company being sued or blamed in court for being parked on the shoulder. How many truck drivers know that.......1 out of 1000? What we have here is failure to communicate. The industry is a joke and that is the way they want it.......so they get it.

If these idiots knew how many ways there were to screw themselves they wouldn’t drive a truck. I shared court decisions and accident causation info with my last driver as part of an ongoing training regimen. He did three trips and said he wanted to do local only. I think I scared him. If Ignorance is bliss then the interstate is the Garden of Eden.

 

There have been people almost killed when they come off the shoulder wrong or stopped in some very bad spots. One time above Crashville (Nashville) on a bottom of a interstate downgrade a man was trying to fix his left rear flat. I blasted by air horn before i got to him in the rain and he plastered himself next to the car and tried to be a part of it. I missed him not by much. I know I didnt hit him. But I cannot tell you if the next 7 trucks behind me did or not. The radio didnt say much. He would not be parking like that again flat or no flat.

My personal favorites are drivers who don't like being stuck on a grade behind a truck that is going 1/4 of a mph slower than them. They scoot out into the hammer lane and wind up blocking it for everybody.

I remember long ago before computers and governors, we generally sorted out the fast and empties up front and the heavies in the caboose along with everyone else in the middle. More or less it was organized and we all were rolling.

Today there are too much trouble and conflict among speed limited rigs. It's fortune that cars are not limited as well. Imagine if they were.

 

LOL, I knew some of those drivers, the tankers are still sitting at the old gravel pit east of logan. lol

 

How about the idiots that park on the shoulder on the first 60 miles of I-70 in PA. Tight roads and small shoulder and dummy decide to take a pee break right on the right hand curve while super trucker billy is blowing past you going 75 in the 55 and he’s leaning towards your side too.
