My truck only shuts off when I'm on home time the rest of the time it's running. Guess all my hours will be gone in a few days.

Yes, and my understanding from experience is that most of them have no clue... I just had a level 2 at Missouri West bound 44 St. Clair coup and most of my driving was continued on from the previous day to the next due to being low on hours and having to overlap into the next crack of dawn "like we all love" "LOL" and the DOT lady took about a half minute look and handed it right back to me... LOL It was legal and obviously on paper but I honestly knew she was confused as all get out just by looking at it... But no worries, she made up for it on her "walk around' inspection when 1 trailer tire that was 2 months old had "Slick Spots" on it as she called it and I got a Violation for tread depth less that 1/32... The slick spots on the trailer tire was similar to the ###### spots on her undies, except smooth... complete BS but that's another topic...

And you know this how? No one gives a rip when I start or stop my engine. gooberment or carrier. That has got to be that enlarged paranoia gland you are experiencing. And the "box" could give a rip if I am logged in or not. Now some carrier might have that set up in their trucks, but it is not the standard, nor is it anything related to gooberment regulation.

Man, oh, man. The fear factor is really big regarding this stuff. I have never seen so much disinformation and paranoia since I was driving in Alaska and the CDL mandate came along. And even then, I am not sure it was as bad as it is with this Elog thing. Seen it in every change that has come down though. OMG, the world is going to collapse when the first set of new HOS came about earlier this century. And then, OMG, it is really going to destroy trucking when the next HOS change came along. And sure enough, now that the HOS got changed again a year ago, for sure we will all be out of business by Christmas. And now that Elogs are coming, trucking will fade away into history for sure!

This is almost better than going to the comedy club, because it is free entertainment!

A friend of mine on electronic logs got a ticket for not having an instruction manual for his e-logs. The ticket was about $90. That just tells me they are still after the money.

Yep, that is all it is ever about... revenue. Same thing applied to, say, cigarettes. They holler about how bad they are and put on public service announcements about getting folks to quit. If they were so serious about safety, why not ban the products altogether? Nope, can't do that, because tobacco taxes are one of the big cash cows for states. Safety, for the children, and all the other little catch phrases they use are just to get people's emotions swayed to going along. Reason and sanity have no business in the process, at least according to the politicians.

So say your truck is at a shop being worked on or serviced and your out with the wife enjoying a night out. Shop employees go to move it or take it out for a test drive, what happens then?

That's why I'm against elogs it has nothing to do with paranoia. Elogs just add an expense to my monthly budget that I don't want or need. They don't make anyone safer they just line the pockets of politicians and their friends. When they do make elogs mandatory even those small companies that have some kind of system in place now will still have to spend money because their system is not the system of the politicians friends. I pay my taxes and should have a say in where my money goes. Unfortunately I don't and no matter how many phone calls you make or letters you write they will still do whatever they want. So why can't the government just take my money spend it however they want and leave me alone to make more money for them? One word Greed.
