Your fixed cost ( insurance alone ) makes it impossible to limit to only weekend running. Not counting only running to locations that load and unload Saturday and Sunday.

 

OK, thank you for the update. The way things look DOT # is pretty well always required and you need insurance proof for that, correct?
Save some local stuff I could work out to cover those, looks like there's no plausible way for that to work out.

 

I have a question. Is there a certain ELD that is preferred for hotshotting? I think I have combed this entire thread but I have not found anything about experiences with ELDs.

 

There’s a lot of different ELD brands out there. Most of the Owner Operators I work with are using transflow. A lot of guys buy them right at the pilot truck stop.

 

When it come to trailers, do most of you prefer the straight 40' flat deck or the style with the monster ramps? Just curious as I've seen plenty of each of them on the road. I'm sure it depends on your specific application, but I'd like to hear some pros and cons. Thanks.

 

IMHO those monster ramps will limit your freight options. If you wanted to load something on the end of your trailer that needs ramps it can not be done. A deck over may limit you from carrying a really tall piece. A low boy may limit a 102 inch 40ft. load. The longest, lightest trailer is what I prefer ( lowboy ) however depends on what you are carrying.

 

I can’t go into detail right now because I’m busy booking loads but I wouldn’t own either trailer that you’ve mentioned, unless some mods were made to make them.

 

I am considering the low profile 22GN 35+5 by BIG Tex. Your thoughts?

 

I use the same type trailer you recommend except mine has 2 7k axles instead of 3 7k as I run under 26 even the same brand. I got the idea from you.
