It is certainly less expensive to lease to another carrier rather than get your own authority. It is the carrier's responsibility to make sure that your fuel taxes are filed and paid along with having everything straight as far as the other requirements, such as drug consortium membership, etc., There are some carriers that will lease you on with as little as 6-12 months experience, but I would recommend that you have at least a couple of years under your belt before taking the leap.

Merry Christmas. There are a handful of carriers who are considered training carriers that will accept those who have recently gotten their CDL. A few that come to mind are US Xpress, Covenant, Swift, Roehl, Millis, CRST and Maverick. I am sure there are others, but these are the ones most often mentioned when I talk with other newbie's. If you got your license through an accredited driving school they should be able to point you in the direction of a few carriers that will hire you right out of school.

You can also add Stevens, Hill Brothers, MCT and Werner to the list.

Everyone starts somewhere. I would not want to put down a company that gave me a start.

well you don't want to start like I did. I drove for an o/o for 45 days, and since I knew everything there was to know by then. I went out and bought me a truck.

Hey, I did a Lease with CRE after 3-weeks with trainer (all drop and hook so no backing practice). Then 1 1/2 with a lease operator as additional training. Was a nightmare and because they knew I wanted to go lease they let me out early, leased my truck and gave me someone to "train" on my first load.

    4 1/2 weeks OTR and I'm training someone. :biggrin_2559:
