Ok,I'm not saying km a driver or an o/o but when someone sits in the shop more often with newer equipment and can visible read the GPS speed read out and do basic math for MPG they eventually figure hmm. This new thing seems to break down more,Pull worse and get worse mpg. Also No I'm not in the right seat shifting. I'm working on the gps or finding a truck stop. If I'm stopped I'm probable unloaded or loading a truck. Over the last few weeks we've had the worst week ends we've ever had to deal with but between the 2 of us we got through it. I am also a (as my dad's boss puts it) gopher. I do random wor they need done. Go get in that truck and go fuel it up. OK your taking trailer 55 start unhooking it from the other truck there. Everything I say has come from what I've seen. I'm not saying I know all the bills BUT I NEVER spent 5 hours in a truck stop because my truck had derated it self. Also never had to call a mechanic to come work on the truck and that was over 6 years been here a much less tI'm and have already had troubles. So by that logic I would guess that the truck cost's more !!!! Is that flawed and please explain why ? And I can look at fuel prices look at MPG and yearly miles and come up with a estimate for yearly fuel costs. A mechanic lmao 300 bucks just for them to come across the street and plug a laptop into the truck because emissions.... never had to pay that before because it didn't have emissions. Also those 379s were in the 900,000 to a million range and most had not been rebuilt yet. In all of that time I never NOT ONCE had engine trouble other than a hose blow. I don't Wana start a argue ment over this.
As of right now it’s about $.35/mile but that’s because been running the southwest. It can range from .34-.38 depending on where at I am. Just had the whole fuel system on my 16 Cascadia replaced to so getting good Milage as well.
It's not worth the paper its written on. You dont need a degree to do the simple math on operating a truck at a buck 30 a mile....
So that rate is already down to 95 cpm loaded and 65 empty. Last time I checked the ltl line haul positions paid 72 cpm. Plus full benefits.
An like I said it’s not ideal. But keeps my truck making money and a lot less stress vs. load boards where ppl are running for penny’s or dead heading because they got good rate into a state where there is garbage rates coming out. Hopefully rates go up soon. But until then this keeps me moving!
It's real simple. Could you pay a driver a fair wage and normal benefits while still maintaining a minimum profit? It doesn't have to be top odd the line union level wage and benefits but it can't be bottom level you won't ever get a decent driver. If the answer is no then you are not running at a sustainable rate. In other words it's thre very definition of a phrase that's common in the industry... you bought yourself a job.
.... I would like to add that this (1.50 is my floor rate) job some of us bought comes with time off at our discretion. You cant help but pinch yourself as your sipping on a bintang in Bali.. knowing your fellow westerners are unfortanetly stuck in that rat race.
