no sense in getting in a war over it. You followed rule 1. Don't hit &%^. You were following in a manner that allowed you to stop safely when an unexpected road hazard appeared. people do dumb things on the highways everyday, that is why you can never be too complacent and always be scanning ahead and behind. That's why after a day of 'not doing anything but driving' wears you out. i don't think this thread was needed but you also don't need to justify to somebody else why you didn't hit something. As best as you can explain this incident they are still just words on a page.

    ABS prevents wheels from locking/skidding.

    In theory, yes.

Not so much in practice sometimes.

I had this happen last week. Driver in front of me suddenly pulled sharp left into the next lane to avoid a tire blown by the guy in front of him. BECAUSE I HAD MAINTAINED A SAFE FOLLOWING DISTANCE I WAS EASILY ABLE TO MOVE LEFT ALSO.

Not unless he was on another channel since my CB was on. The way he jerked out of the way you could tell he wasn't paying attention.

That could have been the case. A couple of weeks ago I kept giving bear reports on a receivers channel. Explained why I got no reply.

Seems lkke a good story! I mean, you observed proper following distance for speed and guess what?! It worked! You did your part and Im glad you did!

I worry far more about the other drivers on the road than myself.
