After driving my 10hrs what is the minimum amount of time I have to stay in sleeper berth before I can drive again and for how many hours before I have to finish my split sleeper berth.how many times can I split sleeper berth in my 70
The answer is: It all depends. Depends on how much time do you have left on the 14 and 70? You have to remember you are splitting your 14 clock as well as your 11 clock. If it took you 13.5 hours of your 14 to run 10 hours on the drive line, after 8 hours in the sleeper ,you'd only have .5 hours left to drive. I recommend downloading the Eclipse logbook software from Logbook.com and inputting your actual logs into it and it will show a red line which you cannot drive past. I use it when I split sleeper berth just to double check I don't go into violation.
I just roll out after 8 , drive a few hours , take another 10 then drive some more...I hope this is legal , never do I hear safety complaining that I'm doing something wrong
First of all...you have 14 hours to drive 11 hours. In figuring split sleeper, the amount of drive time available after the 8 hours SLEEPER BERTH, would be the amount of drive time you did not use of your 11 before taking the 8 hour sleep. So in your example, you would have 1 hour available to drive before taking a 2 hour break (sleeper or Off Duty or combination), after the 2 hour break you would have the time you drove before your 8 hour sleeper, available to drive this round. This pattern will continue until you reset your 11/14 hour clock with a 10 hour uninterrupted break. The whole point of split sleeper is to extend the 14 hour clock in increments of 8 and 2.
Once you climb in the sleeper, 8 hours. Anything less doesn't count. Otherhalf is correct on the other two hours. Usually though, if you have less than 2 hrs left of your 11, its best to just go ahead and do your 10 off, that way, youll have 11 and 14 again as long as it doesn't throw you over your 70. The only way I split is if Im running a very tight schedule.
It doesn't give you more hours to drive or represent a shorter break. I mostly use it to flip the driving clocks around, say don't want to drive all night, stop and take an 8 hour sleeper then get up and drive about half of the 11 then do a 2 hour break and have again half of the 11 available again.
You are suffering from newbieitis on this question. HOS is a tool for you to use to keep from being overworked. If you have driven 10 hours why do you not what your entire 10 hours off? You can drive for 11 hours so you don't have to spend anytime in the berth and you can drive 1 more hour. If this is a test question. But why would you want to? 8 hours a day of driving is plenty. Never run up against your limits. Relax. Running hard keeps wages down. Run safe, get your fuel bonus. Why should you work yourself to death only to have to wait to be unloaded.
Uhhhhh . 8-2 always messes me up , but for some dumb reason I use it anyways . Well only when it makes sense though..
I figure if I've sat for 8 I might as well sit for 2 more and get a full 14 back. Never understood the point behind the split sleeper provision.
