Ha! Depending on the day I am one of those evil recyclers! Heading into month 7 by the way, and absolutely love my job.

I work rural trash pick up alone, I get no insurance, paid $130 a day plus 0.40 for each cart over 1,000 a week but they find a way to screw you out of that. I have been doing it for a year and as I'm typing this I'm laying on a heating pad with a knot in my back and tail bone hurts when I sit up. My answer is residential and rural trash pick up is not worth being crippled.

Sounds like you need to work for a company worth a ####! $130 a day with no automation sounds like highway robbery to me.

Same here, I'm trying my hardest to get out of this job but Monday thru Friday and sucky trucks, I'm killing myself to make landfill everyday so I don't have to start out there in the mornings. I have to take off just to look for another job.

Some companies like to use you up till you're burned out. Try to use the experience driving trucks to get on with another company that is automated and pays better!

I started 4 months ago. I drive a semi truck, 50' high side aluminum trailer. We
back on the Tipper at the landfill. I am happy so far. Pay is decent. Maintenance
    is terrible. Plenty to eat........

Did OTR for 10 years. Being home every night is real important to me. Each
has to decide what matters to you personally. OTR has better trucks, better
maintenance, usually better pay.................. To me, showering in my own
shower, not worrying about parking, etc makes garbage a good option.

I would advise to try to find a small company. I am not to impressed with
what WM is doing. Here in the KC KS area there are several options that I
    think are better than WM.

Are you getting into trash removal on your own? Or working for the city?

Neither. I work for a small company that does only semi truck trash.
Mainly from transfer stations to the landfill. We don't have any rolloffs
or can pickers. Don't do any residential pickup at all.

Yeah your right, we just had four drivers quit since May and right now have one in crutches from sliding on gravel picking up cart. Everyone is burned out and the owner does not care because he is selling at the end of year but he keeps drivers here by giving bad references so the only way out is OTR with another sucky company or local with sucky company.
