Starting school, forgive me if this has been asked!

Oh boy have you got a surprise coming. The fast pace your dealing with at your.welding job in no way approximates the schedule you'll have to adapt to as an OTR driver. Every tried sleeping between two reefers hauling ice cream? -20 and continuous cyle? How about having to change work shifts in the span of 10 hours? Ever been so tired you didn't even know what state you were in? All this will happen and a lot more. A year ago i was in school with 8 other people in my class...im the last one left driving. There's no way to really prepare for whats coming...its sort of like boot camp. You can talk to people who've been through it and think you understand and are prepared but you dont and you arent. Starting out you'll pick up and deliver daily, once they see you can run hard and are dependable,on time, and safe, they'll start putting you on more difficult and complex loads. Assuming you run according to their standards they will thru to have you home by Friday afternoon at 5pm.

 

Are you still recovering trucks at Trans-Am? What did the other seven classmates say before quitting trucking?

 

Lord no. I chucked that job and went to flatbedding. Been at it for 9 months now. As for the other guys in my class, they just werent able to adapt. One had a wreck and got fired...the others just gave it up.

 

Our NE regional guys are home every weekend if they want. My NE trainer did that.
