Yes. 18 to apply for ANY job. This includes more jobs than the drivers. A lot of shops no longer want high school kids anymore. That is cause if you are under 18 you legally can't work the oven, and it creates scheduling problems due to the restricted hours they can work. This used to be wink wink nudge nudge, but not any more. State labor boards have basically been declaring war on the restaurant industry on these issues. Now to be fair, I don't have first hand knowledge of the other chains policy. But I do have first hand knowledge on what policy dominoes require its franchisee's to follow

The signs I speak of are for "Delivery Drivers" specifically. EVERY pizza joint in my area is posting big signs on their property. They probably should pay them guys better, and someone might just stay with them. They use their personal vehicle and gas, and they want these 'pizza dudes' to work on minimum wage plus tips---not gonna cut it for a part time gig with todays gas prices.

Pay no attention to this guy! Now, not sure if things have changed, but I know guys that have never had a class c license, just contact your states CDL office and ask them, they'd be able yo give you a more reliable answer, best of luck

By the way, to the OP:

Search Craigslist and your local paper for farm jobs. You don't need a CDL to drive a farm tractor locally. That's how I got my start.

Also, I'm still a big gamer.

You need to establish a driving history before anyone is going to take a chance on you. On the Swift recruiter that you talked with...I highly doubt that he processed that you didn't even have a regular drivers license.

Be careful with private CDL schools. i.e. The one I went to...it worked out great for me. However, they allowed a couple people to sign up in my class that had no business being there (they were completely unemployable). i.e. One guy that everyone called "Cheech" literally just got popped (something like 14 months ago) for driving three pounds of marijuana across state lines. Somehow, he avoided jail time (obviously rolled on someone)...but the gist of it is that no company is going to give anyone a job that has a less than two year old conviction for distribution quantities of drugs. What's my point in telling that story? My point is...why the hell did they even let that guy enroll and pay $4,000 for the class when they knew that he was completely unemployable?

There are lots of people in this country that don't get drivers licenses because they could live their entire city dwelling lives and never need one. On my second deployment...we had a girl (city dweller) in the unit that was 21 and didn't have a drivers license. They had to give her some kind of waiver to be able to drive the bus around.

Don't wanna argue with ya dude but I know for a fact dominoes would have taken our franchises away had we used an unapproved driver to deliver. As for driver retention, that has less to do with pay and a lot more to do with the personality types of those the job attracts.

Not sure what you mean spyder? Are you saying that Iowa (atleast my area any way) is breaking the law by hiring 18 year olds with 2 years driving experience instead of the three that you say the law requires?

Not arguing either...just a little confused---because these signs are not small or hidden; they are big, bright, and in your face....and one would assume that the pizza joints would be questioned by the LEO's who read the same signs that I do. So either you are wrong about the law (again; in my area) or every one of them are blatantly breaking the law.

White dog, I'll try to explain a little better. I'm not talking about law. I'm talking about the relationship between corporate and franchisee.
Corporate dictates policy to us. And if we don't follow their rules they can and will revoke our franchise license. One of those rules is who we get insurance from. The insurance company corporate requires us to use will not insure a driver that does not have a full three years driving history.
Basically what this means is those signs you have seen, are deliberately misleading. The typical 18 year old kid is goingoto put his app in and unless his work history and references say he is a total screw up he will get call back for an interview. At the interview he will be offered a inside position(take orders, make pizzas, clean up, prep work, etc) with the promise of a driving position. Some job is better than no job right? Hope this clears up what I was saying in my previous posts.
