    Hi everyone

new here and been an owner operator for a few years sub-contracting for a company for Reefer and dry vans in Canada.

I am looking into operating thru my own authority within the next month and I just need some insight in regards to this whole BS with Coronavirus and the trucking industry.

I would like to go ahead with stepdeck and work thru loadboard only canada based, and I know the demand for Reefer and dry vans are crazy right now because of this whole virus and the supply that is needed, but are you guys thinking the flat deck/stepdeck industry is going to be operating normal as of right now or could we possibly see a decline in work and job availability?

im not the type of person that wants to pick up equipment or freight from one place and take it straight to it’s destination, I would like to do lots of LTL work and picking up pieces on my way straight to the destination that I need to go, but I’m just iffy right now if I should go ahead with purchasing a stepdeck with the circumstances the governments are making that could possibly slow down the deck industry.

Any insights would be much appreciated !

I’m not in that segment. But, I’d say it’ll be fairly dead for a couple months, then will be slow to return as it takes time for people to get their confidence back and build/buy things.

Im sure much more knowledgeable people will come along shortly. Standby.

Spring always lights off the flat/step market. Lots of trucks jumping over to chase van restocking lanes may take some flat capacity away and when spring hits the load to truck ratio should be pretty strong. I wouldnt worry to much personally.

It’s going to be a terrible year for platform freight. First the oil field truckers started going to general freight, then this virus putting the world on hold. Good luck to new ventures, you're going to need it.

I would only be pulling legal freight if I was getting into it right now. Permits in some states are not happening right now. The kind of freight I pull has basically stoped.

Last week 7.83 ratio of flat loads according to DAT.....but how much of that do you want to pull? (cheap)
