California guy, you are going to get as many "nays" as "yays" probably. If you are serious about your career and in choosing the right carrier to drive for then my recommendation to you would be to steer clear of the mega-companies. This will greatly improve your chances of success. Is it easy to get a job with them, yep! As long as you can half way fill out an application! If you want a good job though it is going to take time and effort. The good companies to force hire like the mega-crooks! There's my two cents, do as you wish with it. Good luck to you.

My only issue is I need schooling which I cannot afford. If I knew someone that had a rig that allowed me to get some practice in order to obtain my license, I would have jumped all over it a long time ago. So, I think I am stuck joining a major carrier. My list from best to worst is Prime,Stevens,CRST,Swift,Central,Werner,Cr England. I think I will go with CRST since they do dry van. I really don't want that loud refrigerated truck in my ear while I am trying to sleep. Stevens is not recruiting in my area...

There are good smaller carriers such as Central Ref that have schools. Central is a privately owned company. I highly recommend them. There are many others you just have to do your homework. Most of the herd just goes with what the school tells them and they think Swift, Werner, and England are the only companies out there. These are just the three with the highest turnover rate! They have to spend millions of dollars in advertising to get people to work for THEM! That should be a red flag! Aim for the companies that aren't advertising as much. These are the companies with happy drivers!

Sorry to any of you girls I pee'd off about STevens! My mistake ladies! I wouldn't recommend them team or no team anyway! It's a mega-carrier for students who don't know any better. THanks for the update though on the company.

Do you know anything about Central Ref? My friend and I are planning to Team drive for them but one of our friends worked for them and had a hard time getting paid. Have you or anyone heard of this happening at Central Ref?

Central and Stevens are about the same size. (about 1800 power units). Both pay timely and I have heard a lot of postive things from Central drivers.
I drive for Stevens, and of course I think they're good. (or I would leave)

I drove for Central for awhile and never ever had pay issues. Actually they helped me get paid from Volvo to the tune of about $23,000. Central really went above and beyond to help us out on many occasions.
