I have friends in many cities across the country. If I'm in their area I'll have them come and pick me up and I'll stay at their house for a night or two.
I have always logged this time as off duty and have never had a problem doing so.

I have been asked about it a couple of times but when I tell them I was staying with friends or relatives it's never been questioned further.
I suppose if it was questioned further I'd just call the person who's home I stayed at and have them verify that I did in fact stay there.

It comes down to the fact that they have to prove you were not at friends before you have to prove you were.

I have a question: Hubby does alot of nights in parking lots (dedicate run delivery) so he would log line 2 sleeper berth for his 10- okay- he goes to T/S-if he logs 10hr sleeper berth again and they check his log-would a bear question this as ''you didn't leave the truck to even take a whiz or shower?" Should he allow some time line 1 off duty ie 1-2hrs to account for things such as shower, eating etc.
    Thanks!!

Personally have never worried about it. Either way they look at it, you are still on a break.

Exactly....I had a cop in Idaho a few months back tell me that I could not log off duty away from my home town without a motel reciept.
I said "What if I'm staying with friends or relatives?" He told me "You have to log that as sleeper berth." I told him that "That would be falsification because that's not an accurate representation of what I was doing during that time period."

He just got the funniest look on his face and shrugged his shoulders...'Cause he didn't really know how it ought to be logged and was just thinkin' I was gonna settle for the old "I'm a cop and I'm right!" routine, Even though we both knew he had no idea what he was talking about.

I still say that you can do anything you want while "off duty". It does not say in the little green bible that you must sleep. You can watch TV, eat, chase blonds, take a walk, go to a movie or the Mall or whatever.

I am not anal enough to draw lines if I go into a truck stop at 3 AM to whizz but for a 10 hour break I always log some line 1 at the front and back of the break for showers, meals, bathroom breaks etc. Its always within 15 minutes of what I actually did.

Thanks! I want to make this work "by the book". Maybe my trainer can show me how to make money and stay violation-free. Did you ever find out what that was that you delivered to Port Hueneme?:biggrin_25525:

    Let me ask you this:
How many people do you know that would show up for 2, 3, 4+ unpaid hours sitting around at their day job for no pay?
    I can't think of a one.
    I doubt you can either.

I was just telling my boss this the other day, luckily he is very reasonable
we worked out that 2hrs free, but if over that paid for the whole time ( incl. the first 2hrs)
