Those peanuts do add up too. ;-)

The only number that means anything is at the end of the year and if you want to do the same thing for the next year.

That may be true but when you phrase it as "ok, are you advising me to break FEDERAL LAW to get off this property?".... Then politely and professionally "debate" it with him for a bit as your clock works down... lol

I had that happen in a parking lot in Florida... (I dropped for one of the bigger stores but they didn't own the parking lot) ... I got down to like 10-15 minutes ... (After one of the other store managers started telling me to leave the lot 30 minutes before) ... The very nice officer then asked me for my license and said he would "run a background" on me... And he would probably be done in 10-15 minutes... LOL

Once my clock completed I walked back to the nice officer, collected my license, and thanked him... He advised not to park here next time.

    $.43/mile vs $20-36/hr... I'll stay local.

Ya but you have to "work" for that $20.
We just sit back and enjoy the view. ;-)

The only reason this happens in the first place is because you guys are willing to sit there for free. If every company paid by the hour non of this would happen. It takes 15min to remove and sort 48,000lbs from a refer . If more companies paid drivers by the hour that is how long it would take at every shipper and receiver.

Well the DOT tries to stop you from logging off-duty or in the sleeper at while the truck is unloading. It is against the law. Unless you get in an accident, it is seldom enforced. Although the elog thing has more DOT officers looking into loading and unloading times on logs; it is so easy to do when dispatch info and driver log are on the same computer.

Yeah after eight hours of sitting, likely with no pay, the split can help you move the truck and look legal to office safety. After that you think you could pick up another load, but office planners do not know how to work the split so you will be likely sitting until you do a full 10. So much for being the smart trucker.

Overall you are best looking for a company that has a line 5 on their recorder. That allows maximize your planned hours and stay out of the office for unnecessary log safety meeting. Avoid all those idiot companies that do not allow off-duty driving; no need to be prisoner of the truck.

I wish I could thank you more than once. I watched Jimmy Hoffa movie and all I could think was "all these years latter and drivers aren't better off". Why people agree to otr treatment is beyond me. You have to stand up for what is right.
