    I have a 510, serial # 510-058778-EL-12W11 V.5.5

It was working OK, but about two weeks ago I connected it to computer to update it, and in the middle of the update power went out.

Now all I get when I turn it on is the white screen, and "Starting Wince"

Rand Mc Nally dock starts to update, but then it comes up with "Update failed"

Is it repeirable, or is it a time for a new one?

    Thanks View attachment 69170

It is going to be a 50/50 chance. I would suggest to go ahead and get the 520, they are at a reduced price now.

Sounds like the firmware and/or the internal storage is corrupt.

    Thanks,
    Mark

That part is not even split, just i35. It tells you go north on i35, but shows you to go south. It's kinda like having a drunk navigator lol.

@ Mark. Update.. no joy on D/R. Looking at getting an ext ant and trying that. Although, I'm showing that its seeing satellites ok. What is the min number it has to see to function? as a side note. also have a "car" garmin that gives me no problems at all in the same location. it "sees" anywhere from 5-8 satellites at all times and have never known it to freeze. I'm really beginning to wonder if this is just a bad unit.

Could be then... It should have a minimum of 4 "Seen" satellites to be close to your physical location.

Used/Seen - what are those numbers?
DOP - what is that number - it should be below 2.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Leave off for about 12 hours and then charge on AC for about 3 hours. See if it powers on then. Make sure you are using the Rand McNally DC cord. On the DC end it should say DC in 12-24vdc/out DC 5vdc 2amp.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Here we go...165th Street Hammond IN going to (can't remember #) Plover Rd, Plover WI (Silgan Container). How in the heck do I get it to take me to I80 and not to the Skyway, Company doesn't allow the Skyway??? It routed me 152 N and then some small streets when in reality I just needed to go 152 S for a couple of miles to I80.

Also how do I get it to take me 94W through Chicago (or 294 for that matter) instead of routing me on US20 and such??? Really like the 720 but it keeps routing me on smaller roads even though I have allow tollways/freeways on??

    Set to Prefer Freeways.

If you see a route that you wish to avoid, you can do it two ways.

    Temporary -

Once on the map screen and in route, go to the right side, look for the icon showing (3) arrows and lines. This is the Turn by Turn (TBT). Tap on that. On the bottom Tap on Route Display Options, Highway view. Tap on the road that you wish to avoid. On the top tap on Detour. It may give you different segments to avoid depending on the length of the segment. Tap on the option you wish.

This will avoid the segment so long as the unit is on. Once rebooted, it "forgets" the temporary detour.

    Permanent -

On the map screen when in a route - Tap on the COG on the lower left. Tap on Detour. Find the "length" of the segment on the left side and the road on the right. Tap on your option.

This is a permanent detour. It can be cleared out if you select Avoid list. A reboot will not clear this detour.

    Thanks,
    Mark
