"Sittin' on the dock of the Bay...Watching the tide roll away...."
Thanks a lot, Ms. Nana! Now I'll have that waking me up in the middle of the night...
You are absolutely right about access to the office. It is a very rare office that I can't walk in and talk to someone face-to-face at the desk.
El Paso comes to mind. And Decatur....but two out of 34 isn't bad.
You want that sort of access? Get yourself cleaned up and presentable, don't toss an attitude and make sure you know what you are talking about before you spout off. And be respectful.
Swift...... I enjoy my job

I don't bring food to anyone LOL Well wait......I do bring them taffy from the TA in Wilcox. I have no idea why it's just that one TA but it is. LOL And then I usually give it to the mechanics. I'm not dumb.......I know who I need to fix my tractor LOL
What gets to our trip planners is my grandbabies. Those two little ones know the planners and DMs names and they'll say "thank you for letting Nana come home, you're a good boy." or "Steve's a bad boy he makes nana work". LOL Steve the trip planner now tries to get us home to play with the kids. I find this very funny that small boys wield such power.
Injun.........I've got the darn song in my mind too. It could be worse....it could be the ice cream and cake song. -
Oh that fleece agreement was a good decision.
If you were a company driver at that unbelievable amazing 3387 at .34cpm you would have $1151.58, half the tax burden, pretty good medical insurance. So how is $850 a good deal? The equivalent of Swift's company driver medical will cost you over $200 a week alone and now you get to pay the whole FICA cost yourself. So subtract the insurance and the higher taxes you really have half of what you would have got as company driver ~ $600.
I still do not believe the 3387. It way above and beyond any fleet average. It is a coincidence that would take a ridiculously high number to make the fleace agreement look even close to good?
Don't tell me .10cpm is good insurance against truck repairs. Tires alone cost the big fleets .02-.03cpm and you don't get there quantity discounts on tires or labor. Especially labor, Swift is not a flat rate shop.
How is it all of Swifts owner-operators get 7mpg yet few check the actual fuel they pay for tank for tank? If you did you would find the gage in your truck and the qualcom that runs off the same algorithm that is about 10-20% off. This is almost universally true from the Prius to the big trucks. Swifts is aware of this and when uses the data calls it 'effective milage for comparison sake.' Fleet average for the same trucks is around 5mpg.
I am not here to bust your bubble wish you the best, but as most fleece owners your numbers are off and you have not considered everything. This is what the fleece preys on and why so many fail. -

Who do you drive for Toomanybikes?

Hehehehe....thinks I don't actually check my purchased fuel versus mileage actually run....I guess I wouldn't be much of a business person if I didn't do something as simple as that...yes, I am really getting 7 mpg and better. But I don't drive this truck like it's somebody else's company truck. I drive it like it's mine. Because it is.
10cpm: Considering I'm putting away (in my own account, mind you) roughly $300/week, after 8 weeks, it adds up to $2,400 in the account, drawing interest and just sitting there until I need or want it. It's my money and I'm putting it away on my own.
My cost for medical insurance through Swift (Aetna) is $65/week. I have no dependents.
I delivered late Sunday in Las Vegas, had a medical emergency that I had to take care of and ended up with a 34 reset by the time I left Las Vegas.
Trips for the week:
Left Tues morning from Henderson, NV to Clackamas, OR Delivered Weds evening Loaded 975, Deadhead 15
Pick up Thur morning in Albany, OR to Missoula, MT Delivered Fri afternoon Loaded 606, Deadhead 65
Pick up Fri afternoon Missoula, MT to Albany, OR Sat evening Loaded 606, Deadhead 0 (backhaul)
Pick up Sunday morning Lebanon, OR to Renton, WA Sunday afternoon, Loaded 246, Deadhead 14
Pick up Sunday afternoon Sumner, WA to Salt Lake City Monday evening, Loaded 837, Deadhead 23
If you want the trip numbers, let me know and I'll PM them to you.
I have been here in Salt Lake City since roughly 1800 and will sit for a 34 reset and take care of personal business until Wed morning.
But let's add them up:
Loaded: 975, 606, 606, 246, 837 = 3270
Deadhead: 15, 65, 0, 14, 23 = 117
3270 (LD) + 117 (DH) = 3387 paid miles.
By the way: I am able to access the bulk discount Swift has with its vendors. And I absolutely plan to. It's good business sense to get something as cheaply as you can.
I don't care what the fleet average is. I only care what my average is. That's the problem with a lot of the people who complain so much. They are so busy complaining and paying attention to what other people are doing they don't have time to take care of their own business.Texas-Nana Thanks this. -
At 4000 a week and .30cpm you should have earned (4000 x .30 x 52) = $66560 with out any accessorial pay. That is more than twice of what your stated earnings are of ~ $32. So your real weekly average is obviously less than half that, Or less that 2000miles per week. Probably
1700-1800 that I stated as a Swift driver's average.
You may believe yours/ your DM/ your recruiters BS but your numbers don't add up in any way. So please don't lead any other drivers or potential drivers astray. -
6.4 to 6.9 is what I get. Of course the days are getting cooler so I don't idle as much. Worst I've done was about 5.7. And yes, I hand calculate.
Texas-Nana and Injun Thank this. -
Fuel: My odometer reading was 80,418 Tues morning at 3/8 on fuel, as I sit now, 84,096 at 3/8 on fuel.
Total fuel purchased: 554 gallons.
I did some idling, so figure I burned about 30 gallons idling.
Let's see:
84,096 - 80,418 = 3,678 total (not paid...remember, I use this as my own transportation, too...refer to post #139 for breakdown)
554 gallons - 30 gallons idle fuel = 524 gallons burned running down the road
3,678 miles / 524 gallons of purchased fuel and my fuel level is the same now as when I started = 7.02mpg.
And yes, I can scan in the receipts and match up the fuel times with my trips if you need me to do that to prove it.
If you insist on including the fuel I chose to idle away, my mpg falls to 6.64. Maybe this will help you feel vindicated, but so far, you have not "busted anyone's bubble" as you like to say.
Sorry.
