when i was with crest , i hauled dog food and them old junk trls were a bear, i had the same problem till the light buld went off after wacthing a show called wrecked,on tv, what i did was went out the ta shop, they said there not busy , ok , let me call the boss, becuse i could not slide the tadems and need to get legal, i only did this as a last restort, but what we did we put two 20 ton bottle air jacks under the dot bumper and lift the whole trl up, letting the tadems dangle, then i hook my come along and a short chain on axle, pulled that tadem were it need too be, i came in pretty close too being legal then, i wouldnt recomnd this for a fix , but you gotta do , whata gotta do too get legal, and far as loads i hope swift dont do this me as i had a few do it to me , but lets say i get a nice run after hard short runs , and now i get a 1300 miles, yes, then half thru bam, a repower go pickup his and swap out , now i got 456 miles and due yesterday and my other run had 256 miles in and was shut down fer tonight and when he bams me in the 1 am and says im only truck closet i was so i wanna throw my hammer clear back too yard at him ,but thats trucking i keep tellin me
I can see the water from my house, it's funny how we don't appreciate it when it's home. I head out to Lewiston tomorrow to start my second driving career. Hope I can get back once in a while but since I haven't driven since the 80's I get to be the Newbie again. I expect to be run pretty hard.
Yup - a gallon of diesel is about 8 lbs. And you should figure out where it goes, by scaling one day before and after fueling. My Prostar - 5 lbs on the steers and 3 lbs on the drives per gallon. (With the 5th wheel 1 notch up from all the way back)
My bad. The gross was 79,800. I tried again this morning to slide the tandems and it went smoothly. First weigh, tandems in 1st hole... S 11,940 D 33,460 T 34,400 G 79,800 Second weigh, tandems in 3rd hole... S 11,960 D 33,780 T 33,700 G 79,440 Can't get much better than that! Still not sure why the gross went down 360, but I'm not complaining.
i was gonna say 25 gallons is gonna put you over 80000 when you are at 77900 how do you figure? fill up and your still good
My 2c.. I you look on yer map, or gps(not QC gps) and figure out where the nearest chicken house is, you can pretty much figure how much fuel you'll burn before getting there, thus knowing how much fuel you can get, and roll through w/out being red lighted. Example, first scale house is 150mi away, you know yer truck gets 5.5mpg with 44k in the box. 150 / 5.5 = 27gal * 8 = 216lbs of fuel burnt off before hitting the scale. factor in the roads your going to be traveling on, mountains, flat etc, and adjust from there. The above is just an example, of course. I do however plan my fuel intake based on load, nearest chicken house and location of my final, but that's me. I've ran a few 100lbs over on my steers before, but I knew id burn off all that weight before I got near a scale house, and even if I were close a lot of them scales know its fuel weight and allow you to bypass if yer close. Not saying you can't get pulled in, but 99% of the time a swift driver will be flagged green, atleast in my case. you can also look in yer map book and see that all states differ on steer weight, etc.. Again my 2c. here, but if im gettingg a lot of 490 - 670 mile runs, I hardly ever top off my tanks. I figure in the weight of the load, know what mpg I get on said weight and factor in the roads/highways ill be driving and fuel accordingly. This way I may stop every load for X amount of fuel, but im also earning more points and shower credits on my rewards card(s). Again all just my way of thinking, may or may not apply to your loads or driving, but it works for me and 99.999% of the time I roll past chicken houses and usually have enough shower credits on my cards where I can stop at any truck stop and know I can get free showers, coffee, food, etc..
You got it zuki,,,i do about the same thing.... fuel burn, people forget about that,or dont think about it,this is why you would do well as a mentor or l/op
Bakersfield C.A. There's tons of freight moving out but so many swifty's heading in with cotton loads. If you get there your going to be sitting for a bit.
Sound like y'all having fun over there, I'm here trying to get out of texas. Got here 03/03 2330 getting all short runs around tx since. Got a 800 mile run to ohio and they cancel it soon as I accept. Then back to sending the short runs around tx. I know they have loads just not sending them to me.
