That would be pretty nice to have a female companion on the road with me. I'm going to have to put a notice on Craigslist or something lol.

Yeah, I envy you guys with families at home. It's gotta be nice to have something to look forward to when you have home time coming up. I know, in the same way, it's tough being away from them out on the road.

Yeah, I don't miss the more social jobs most of the time. Office politics. Back stabbing. Etc. I don't miss that. I'm just trying to find that balance with everything in this job. I still wouldn't trade it for anything though.

To me trucking is easier when your single or have your lady with you on the road, having a family at home is indeed tough, when I was OTR it would hurt to say bye to my kids and have the oldest ask when they will get to see me again and the youngest crying her eyes out because daddy is gone again for awhile. My youngest finally has come out of that but she still doesnt quite understand at her age either.

Local is what I want but dedicated gigs at least keep me somewhat happier.

Being a reformed druid ... I'm hurt, dismayed and personally offended that you ran over a bush.

if it makes you feel any better the bush did survive! hit that bush at the Target in Grenada Hills dodging a car who decided they wanted to try and sneak past me.

Might I suggest in the future staying in your truck. If the 4 wheeler calls you in and says you jumped out of the truck to confront him that may be seen as you escalating the situation and that may not end well for you.

    DocWatson Thanks this.

thats why I was saying to just let them go, it can turn tides and make you look like the aggressive one in the matter

Since December or early January my husband has been mostly in the south. He got through Atlanta before the big snowjam hit. That was an interesting few days. My kids were out of schoolpool for 4 days and iI was out of work for 2. Tuesday when it started snowing it took me 4 hours to drive what normally takes 15minutes. He has been complaining about being given loads from north and south Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. He is gonna talk to his DM about getting some longer runs. I told him to enjoy being south while he can and not go up north to play in the snow

As long as he's running steady it doesn't matter if the runs are long or short. As long as he has the miles at the end of the week, he'll be good. Besides this time of the year he's in a good spot ... a long run to the wrong place - out west - can leave him sitting for an inordinate amount of time between loads.

yep, I know the Mira Loma terminal is full of a lot of bobtails more than I usually notice, lot of drivers complaining about no loads etc.

I would rather get 400-500 mile runs daily if consistent compared to getting one 1500 mile run with 3-4 days on it then have to sit for a couple days looking for a load etc....

Yeah, I guess I'm quite fortunate to be offered this dedicated team gig at this time of year. So far we've been running to east coast and back to LA each week, with the exception of one week when we missed our window for picking up a TJ Maxx load in LA and had to do "normal" runs for a week (and that check turned out to be the smallest of my Swift career). Other than that one "off' week I'm making more money running dedicated than I did running OTR solo.

cj&m, your husband should start putting a bug in his DM's ear to let them know he's looking for a dedicated gig. Each one varies, but they usually have steadier paychecks and often higher pay.
