Swift will starve you if you let them, no doubt. After you get off that mentor truck, the first month or two is the worst. It is what it is. I'm in month one post-mentor and I can tell you with out a doubt that there's tons of sitting involved. You gotta make the best of it, though. One of the best mentors I had (and I had several) told me that being with swift is like doing time. But after a year, and instead of getting released to the streets with two hundred dollars and a blanket, you've got the opportunity to take what you've learned and lend your talents to something much, MUCH better. Hell, even six months with Swift will almost guarantee you a better opportunity elsewhere, you just got to look for it. It's like this, Swift is using the hell out of you, cheap labor, long hours, life on the road. It's endless. So why not use Swift? Use the Swift brand to advance yourself to something better later on. Keep a good attitude, do what you got to do, and get the hell out. I had a lot of problems with Swift and trucking very early on, but if I knew then what I know now I'd have been so much better off today...

I am sure the truth is somewhere in the middle here, but I guess I don't understand the level of venom that several show here when trying to refute another's story. I do know recruiters have a tendency to troll here, but the story is his and not yours. Perhaps it happened and perhaps it didn't, but no two experiences in the trucking industry are exactly alike. Swift doesn't have the greatest reputation, and it is possible that the events happened. The holier-than-thou responses are a bit over the top, though.

Trucking is what it is, and you have to find your niche. All you can do is research, talk to others, read here, and do your homework to find that gig where you will be comfortable. That job is out there - you just have to find it.

Good luck to you, and file this away as a lesson learned. Be patient, and research, research, research. Happy trails.

    Swift wages:
I made something like $355 a week during mentor ship.

going solo @.25 cpm 400-600 week, then got on a dedicated account with a swift o/o and made 800-1000 week
but as soon as I got my year I got the hell out of dodge because the douchebag ####### driver managers were driving me bonkers with their redundant messages sent repeatedly and their holier than thou attitudes SUCKED.

my weeks vary, my next check I made $721 and the onw following should be around the same, my average is roughly $400-500 a week after all the deductions and student loan. I had one week of $4.71 which was last week since it was the week I went home and then had the truck in the shop so only had one load and after the loan and deductions the 4 bucks was left.

I am currently looking for local companies close to home and have been slowly applying to stuff, I make 1/4 what I did in my last profession and could / might go back if stuff doesnt get better for me soon, its not worth my time and low pay to be away from my wife and kids. In a few hours im picking up a load that is 2100 miles and I put my hometime in to hopefully get the 2k return miles within a week and I have a job back home a friend shared with me im applying for that pays $50k during training phase so hopefully works out. Its an industrial inspection job but also requires driving a truck at times.

Maybe I'm lucky. I actually enjoy being a shuttle driver. I'm taking home around 500 a week but I have a great relationship with my DMs and they'll send me anywhere from San Diego to Vegas to El Paso if I ask a few days in advance to see friends.

I have to call total bull on the 100 per week thing. I got paid more than that even after the first of the year when there was only enough freight to keep me driving 800 miles per week.

    Something doesn't add up here

I quit Swift on July 13th. BEST move I've made in years! I am 49 years old and have worked my entire adult life. Swift is the SKETCHIEST Company I have ever worked for. I subscribe to the life laws that you "teach others how to treat us" and "If you keep doing the same thing, over and over....you will keep getting the same results...over and over." I worked in fields where you DEPENDED on COMPETENT People at the other end of the phone/radio/qualcomm. I saw NO competency whatsoever! I worked hard.....drove however many hours it took to get a load to delivery ON-TIME (100% On-Time), No Service Failures. I knew going in....I wouldn't get paid for the TOTAL miles I drove as SWIFT ALWAYS shorts on miles! (I'll own that choice). I couldn't even make my expenses with the crappy paychecks that I recieved. I was making $.30 per mile and had full benefits so....I knew I wasn't going to bring home big paychecks but $100-$230 Net take home?? No Thanks!

I'm not trying to sway ANYONE from or against Swift and I know there will be Trolls taking issue with my post here (I could care less). I am telling you that SWIFT is sketchy and is NOT a place to work if you have any self esteem or common sense. From ME to YOU......Steer well clear of SWIFT TRANSPORTATION! I don't make up a phony screen name, I'm Mike Cammer from Kooskia, Idaho. I have a family, kids and grand-kids. PM me if you have questions or concerns. I'll give you my phone#.

If you are a Swift flag-waver and are happy there....Good for you. I hope you are happy as I wish Peace and Happiness for EVERYONE. If you want to talk crap about me of find fault with my ethics, character or work habits (When you have NEVER even met me)....knock yourself out. I could care less! I AM HAPPY and Trolls spouting ignorant cr*p don't get allowed to waste my time. GOOD LUCK & PEACE TO ALL! Mike
