If I was of the left minded side, I would say your parents raised you wrong. You're not suppose to be responsible for anything. Nothing is your fault. If you don't get the world handed to you on a silver spoon, then you should go after them, destroy them, because you're entitled to their stuff, their money. It's one of Big 'O's bill of rights you know.. :biggrin_2559:

Geesh, maybe I should look this lawyer up. I signed a contract for a loan when I went through construction school 4 yrs ago. The school for some reason changed their name now, and no longer operates under the same name. I'm paying back, and will be for several years to come, a $20k loan to the finance company that provided it, through the school. BUT I was raised and taught responsibility.

I understand that people are making commitments but still it seems to me very often these contacts are incredibly one way. Perhaps consider it in a more historical perspective?

Well we don't allow contracts for slavery. I.e. I can't sell myself as a traditional slave so it isn't always a matter of "There's a contract you willingly signed, so that's it." However, unfortunately, the courts seem to be upholding this as a legal practice.

In my view the modern entry level trucker often appears to have the level of control over his work environment of that of a peon. And these contracts requiring the student to "Serve the company for one year" remind me a lot of debt slavery and indentured servitude.

    Driver beware, I guess.

Trucking doesn't fall under fair labor & wage act.

Trucking co's want to keep it that way.

Trucking is classified as UNSKILLED LABOR so therefore the co's can literally get away with paying penny wages

You and all others have the option(s) of finding financing from other sources, or to pay cash for the tuition. Those who opt for the "free" training, do so completely informed of their obligations after signing the dotted line, and going through the training.

When you either fail the course (your risk, not the schools) or get your CDL, the terms of the contract have been honored from the school/carriers side...now the time to honor your part (receiver of goods) has come.

Yea got my cdl sponsored by USA truck, even if u get fired, you still have to pay the full amount and none of what has been deducted off of checks for reimbursement counts towards the amount, on top of that they charge twice as much as the school itself charges,
Business savvy is the way, no one forces anyone to sign the ####, just is what it is
