if he isn't even capable or willing to pick up the phone book/craigslist to find some local company to go talk to....
You got to wonder about his initiative.
Take it from me.. Once you get your CDL stay behind the wheel.

I have spent the past week calling and have checked EVERY cl posting in Columbus. Trust me "MN" I have been on the ball with my efforts. Far easier said then done. If you read the whole post you would have read that. I'm not trying to be rude and appreciate all the input. All are asking for '' recent verified experience of 6mo to 2 yr " Being behind the wheel from May 28 till- June 8th doesn't count for a hill of beans. It's not 6mo let alone 2 yrs for recent drive time.

Yop, I read your full post and all.
And I call bull #### on all the companies out there doing that to you and to me and other drivers.
Do your due diligence and you should have a job within a week driving. It took me 4 days to get hired when I put my mind to it. As I said, I quit driving back in 1997. That's 15 years ago.
I talked to friends, opened the phone book and read the local paper.
Once I did that. I called the company to ask for a time to come and talk to them about driving a truck. I didn't ask if they were hiring. -
The company was not willing to allow me another week with the trainer. Like I had posted I was not comfortable with driving there equipment 100% with the loading aspects of staggering the decks. The equipment is old and beat up to begin with and made me very nervous. Some of the cranks didn't lock right because the springs were broke. My trainer told me that most of their equipment had issues and it was tuff to get the shop to fix certain things.I wanted a few more days behind the wheel driving vs the one day I was given. The dispatchers reply was the trainer said you drove fine. I can drive no doubt. Just needed a little more time to feel safe with it. A car hauler handles nothing like a 53 ft box and not as simple as bumping a dock. I told them if I could not train on the eqipment another week than I would have to look at other employment. I was not going to cause a disaster out on the open road and have a car fall off.

It's not an insurance issue at all. If I could drive/load 9/ 30k plus vehicles at a time and operate the tractor trailer after 6 years away it's another matter all together. The owner of this comapny said as long as your MVR/DAC/Background is clear and pass a UA your good with insurance stipulations.
These big companies are all in this together. Look at their hiring practices. If you need a class A CDL we will hire you, if you have one and driving experience then it must be very recent to hire you. It's a scam. With this economy how many people are changing jobs and careers? Tens of thousands. Their business is high interest driver school loans and high risk truck lease agreements. Not freight.NDBADLANDS Thanks this. -
Take the O/O advice. These mega companies will want you to take a refreshers course.Guess they figure you forgot everything. But with smaller companies, all they care is that you have a CDL and will pass their insurance company.
