First day was decent I guess.. Filled out more paper work, added a few things that were missed, and all the usuall school tuition crap.. We had to wait 1 hour for a guy to piss, guess he had a shy bladder../shrugs... then to find out after he pissed he just walked out.. Did a tour of terminal and saw a tractor that had been rolled over.. WOW.. hope that driver survived.. Few guys from cali were there and rest of us were all AZ.. All in all for a first day it was ok.. Tomorrow we are going to be there most of the day and then wed. we go to the range for back up practice.. Ive already pegged the guys that will have issues, so think ill walk slower than them when they assign teams.. 23 started this morning... 19 at the end of the first day... Flatbed was offered to us, but the training comes after the schooling and after you get your CDL.. It's an extra week of class, and is done before you go out on your 240hr adventure/training.. Nice thing about being a flatbed driver is thatyou can drive the flatbed (obviously) and the vans.. If no flatbed routs, you can pick up a van, but nothte other way around.. So I think ill do flatbeds, that and you can make more money as well as 1 cent more per mile.. Thanks for listening ! -=Peace
WOW! 1cpm more for driving a flat bed instead of a van? Had no idea flatbeders made that kind of insane cash, where do I sign up?
If you were going to run cpm your whole career, I'd say it isn't worth it to pull flatbeds, but what it can lead to could make your entry into flatbedding worthwhile.
I agree 100%.. Just talked to my father and he was telling me of my uncle that would have to go out in some wacked out places and pick up loads in crappy weather and such when he ran flatbeds.. Being the green/newb Id rather focus on getting school finished and get my experience on the road for now... -=Peace
A couple things. Your uncle probably drove for someone else. And you can get sent to whacked out places in crappy weather regardless of what kind of trailer you pull.
