No. Avoid those Dollar General and Family Dollar jobs like the plague man.

USX tried to put me on that crap once and it was living hell, I'm not a big guy myself, Only weigh 148lbs on a good day and most of the stuff in those dollar general trailers weighs twice as much as me, They are on these huge cart cage things and they dont want to roll worth a dang, You'll fight and fight with those things until you are wore slap out, They fall off the lift gates really easy too, I had 3 fall off on me, Stuff broke and people got mad...

The stores usually have retarded docks too, It's a cluster fudge just trying to back into those places.

Take my word for it man, Driving is hard enough you don't want to have to mess with freight too.

Don't waste your time pulling a van if you want tankers. Tell Schneider to put you in tankers now. Where is your location? There's several tanker companies that hire new cdl grads.

Since you are in High Point check out Superior Carriers. They hire TOP students straight out of school and drivers with 18 months of recent experience. You will need hazmat but the pay is north of 60K and they have a lot of out and back freight. Training will be primarily local and if you do go OTR while training you will stay in hotels. Keep in mind there is more involved than backing into docks. You unload the trucks in tanker as often as not. If interested call the terminal directly.

Unloading a tanker seems like childs play compaired to unloading a DG DT dry van. Granted i've never done it but ive seen it done on youtube and it looks pretty simple.

Yeah, dragging a few hoses around is worlds easier than fingerprinting 53 feet of boxes, etc. Most tanker drivers also get paid for loading and unloading even if they don't have to get out of the cab.

You are absolutely right. Its not that hard provided you don't have some balance issues because you will be walking around on top of the tanks without fall protection. It sounds like you are doing your research. I am just trying to paint an accurate picture. Good luck.

Hey buddy check into McTank. We have terminals in Atlanta, Dalton, and Chattanooga where im out of. I've been with since April this year and have no complaints. Home most nights, good equipment, and still on paper logs. Not sure if they'd be interested in you since you havent driven in a while but wouldn't hurt. I know we do training and are looking for drivers. Pay is good here to. Good luck to ya

I noticed for me they don't have a terminal anywhere in NC so i don't think i could work there, Unless they would be ok with me leaving the trailer in TN or SC and bobtailing about 4 hours back home.

You'd just have to talk to the closest terminal. Im just a driver that's only been with since April so I've pretty much given you all the info I can. LOL.
