I wouldn't use them to tarp lumber.....I've seen some drivers do that and 50-100 miles later....they're shredded.....

    Speaking of tarps....

Gardner Trucking out of Chino, CA...uses mesh tarps.....even on loads that I as a responsible carrier, am required to use "weatherproof" tarps.......It must be nice not have lug all that extra weight around.....

    I'm talkin' smoke tarps here....

I have "real" tarps for things that require them.

Gardner's always been kind of a low rent outfit anyway as far as I know.

You can purchase those $12 home depot tarps ... For $20 directly from the shipping and rec office where I work :) And that is the exact tarp that the facility provides its local drivers with. One of those tarps can last a few hours ... to a few months ... depending on how skilled a tarper you are.

Yeah they are......They had "NAFTA" drivers before "NAFTA" was a household word......:biggrin_2556:

IIRC...They actually were dairymen in the valley and grew their own alfalfa....
The land became more valuable than dairy farming and they got into trucking supplying the rest of the valley with hay.....

I see them all the way up in WA sometimes.....and running lumber back on those double flats with mesh tarps.......

I usually get a few months out of one...Although the last one lasted one trip 'cause I just got lazy when I was putting it on.

Mesh tarps won't keep cardboard dry and Gardner hauls a lot of cardboard. Mesh is basically for keeping the bugs off the product.
