use this time to run up north and learn how to handle adverse weather conditions, learn how to properly chain. you will need to learn these things and starting out sooner than later helps to keep bad habits out of the picture when dealing with these conditions for the first time. take as many loads as you can out west and up noth for that first winter. it will either make or break you as a driver hopefully you will have will and determination to make it good luck out there.

Pretty much what BAdAZZ said. If you do want to take some days off this is going to be the time. You need to be very smart about when to take your days off so that you aren't sitting at home when freight is running hard or sitting in the truck stop while freight is slow instead of being at home.

Pretty much now till New Years run as hard as you can! Jan and Feb will be slow. End of Feb picks up again. A lot of big companies move freight around this time of year for tax purposes. Companies like Kraft will just move their stuff around from warehouse to warehouse to avoid the man!

Well par for the course I guess... got preset - thinking 'cool - pick up today and head for home!! Drop this in Stockton and see the Grand!!'

    NOT

Instead - appt is at 1500 in CA - we get detained at WM (2.5 hrs) our previous load in AZ and notify the weekender DMs that we will be in CA late. We were assured that we would get loaded as soon as we got here. So we get here only 1.5 hours later than our appt time... and guess what?? They are closed!! They closed at 0230 this morning and won't open back up until 0500 tomorrow!! So tell me, how were they going to load us even if we were 'on time'?? We went back and checked the load information - and yep it said the 5th - and we are here on the 5th - I'm aiming for detention - think I'll get it?? GRRR!!!

Odds are not good. If you are late even if they goof you still dont get it. I have tried.

I'm hoping though - there was the snaffoo on the 4th of July - we got to the shipper, but the planner/CS hadn't added the PU number to the load info - had to wait until the morning of the 5th on them to come back into the office to get the info - we got detention for that one. However we weren't 'late' at the 01... needless to say we will fight for this one, but we aren't expecting them to come through :biggrin_25512: Our fighting points will be the wrong pu date (the 01 was closed) and the DM telling us to get there and they would load us when we got there even though we would be late due to being detained at WM (where we put in for detention there too:biggrin_25523:)

Well we made it 'home'... not quite as early as we wanted, but we are here :D Squeezing the Grand and doing 'paperwork' - LOL!

Well its been a while since we have contributed to this thread... made it home and my daughter tossed me a surprise birthday party - love her anyway - LOL! I told her when I turn 50 I would dye my hair, so I am now a red head :) Klingon and I are back on the road and trying to catch up w/miles - so far so good - but could be better. We planned on being out 2 months, but life interupted our plans and we will need to head 'home' the first part of October - sigh. Not sure who said that 'home time' messed with the pay check, but who ever said that is RIGHT!! No negative check - but positive by only a little :(

Having to scrutinize our settlement w/a fine tooth comb!! It makes me wonder about other folks that might not look quite as closely - the company probably makes a bunch of money off of them! I just got off my driving shift and we are on a 'tight run' - but I have to go through the settlement - and I'm trying to do that in a moving truck in downtown Atlanta, GA evening rush hour traffic - not the best idea!! So I'm taking a break and typing this update instead - LOL! It's just inputting data left, so that I can do later (or so I'm telling myself).

Well back to the grind stone - and hoping I don't get 'truck sick' - I have 7 hours until I drive again, and I still need to get some sleep - wish me luck!!

We had to always go through every statement. I guess it really isn't one persons fault. There is a lot of info that goes into each and everyone's statements. Lots of paperwork, receipts etc... Now add a handful of girls responsible for thousands of drivers pay and I'm sure there will be stuff overlooked. I would say maybe once a month we would have a mistake here and there. They were always good at correcting it though.

Yes going home usually screws you for three weeks! You slow down coming home on that week then the week you are home, nothing, then getting back out on the next week is slow going. You have to make a couple truck payments extra before going home and definitely don't plan it for when freight is good.

Had some great home time - and put a new peice of bling on Matilda.

The back peice of aluminum was really thin so we reinforced it with a 1/4 plate of metal (Gary knows what type - something about what they use in armored cars) So much nicer since we don't have access to the jockey box on the passenger side except by lifting up the bunk... THAT was a pain!! Some day there will be a twin on the other side for the chains :yes2557:

Looks sweet! Perfect timing too! You can put your chains in there so they stay nice and dry. Nothing worse than tangled chains that are frozen together! Its that time of year too. I just threw up a new thread about it. Truckee calling for chains today!
