The Old days are dying and the New drivers only smell like they have.

Driver, that is reason number (approximately) 1,435,789,978 why I've gone back to school at age 34-35....The trucker "fraternity" is like any other, in the sense that it's the poeple in it who make it what it is.

And these people are a large part of the reason why I have no intention of ever sitting in anything with more than six wheels on it/over 4500 kg GVW ever again once my schooling's done....

...They are who have taken over trucking. Well, they can have it, and be welcome to it, I say!

As ol'Bill Clinton used to say,"I feel your pain".....It seems as if trucking used to have about a 20% douchebag to 80% good guy ratio back in the day and now it seems as if the numbers have reversed.Everywhere you look you see a dirty,junky Volvo driven by an even dirtier driver.Not much class left out there anymore.Most newbies have no background in trucking nor do they have any respect for those who have been doing it for awhile.I used to be all for helping them but you can only hear someone call you "Billy Big Rigger" , "Concrete Cowboy" or "Dinosaur"so many times before you get sick of it.I say let them wallow in their filth and ignorance and let the process of natural selection do it's job.

 

Problem is they never drove a truck heres mine 33 years ago I loved it and I loved my job and I didn't ware sanndles just plain old boots and they called me a concrete cowboy

 

By the way shes a White Road Commander and we ran OTR try spend'n a couple of weeks in her then you will have more respect for the job as well as the ones who broke there backs ta bring new drivers the trucks of today.................................Your Welcome

LOL....The way I crack and pop when I get up in the mornings now,I think that truck would kill me.A guy would be better off putting a wooden bill on a picking crap with the chickens.

 

I still consider myself a green hand out here. Only 29, still a pup. Owned 2 trucks and driven a number more. I still love it even though the times are not good. I won't step foot around my truck without my boots on. Just doesn't feel right to me. Won't even attempt to go inside the bunk with shoes on. Respecting and being respected is a big thing to me. I can't stand jack legged fools on the radio and I keep it on 99% of the time. If I see someone thats coming up behind me I get over as soon as I can. I'm not going to run the middle lane holding everyone up like a fool. Respect is a lost cause out there unless you find a good hand. I can get about 1 or 2 good DECENT conversations a month on the radio. All I know is they just don't make drivers like they used too. Maybe I just have higher standards being a 3rd generation driver looking up to some #### good hands.

 

it's a product of the society we live in. i have, although, talked to drivers at the restaurants, that "been driviNg 20 yrs BLKAH BLAH BLAH" SITTING THERE IN THEIR DENIM SHIRT WITH FRAZZLED CUT OFF SLEEVES and dirty blue jeans with unkempt beards etc. i think they are as well as the new guys, digressing to the way they are treated.

 

I agree...The old hands are wearing down fast too and eating rocks with no salt from the low money out there now ain't helping either.
