I love my jakes, they serve a purpose Going down grades and that is the only time I use them. Using them any other time is senseless and annoying!!!!!!!

When I was a kid, I lived 5 miles from I-25 in Colorado. You couldn't see it, but at night (during the 60's and 70's) you could HEAR it. More specifically, you could hear the un-muffled trucks pouring coal between Colorado Springs and Pueblo.
It wasn't a matter THEN, as it is not a matter NOW of moving close to the highway. The GEOGRAPHY of the area magnified the sound. I grew used to the sound, but as a driver, I am irritated by drivers who think they have the right to drive their un-muffled trucks all the time with the jake-brake on, on-ramps or in the truck stop. Proper planning and defensive driving on their part would negate the necessity of jakes in these situations. Ever complain to a driver using jakes in a truckstop? I guarantee that you wont do it again.

{lain and simple Jakes have a place, that place is not driving through town shaking peoples windows with your straight pipes. Those types of guys are the ones I want to push in a ditch. They give us all that negative image the public portrays us as.:snorting:

No I have not, but I've been down Jacumba I-8 out of San Diego. That's bad enough for me. 11 miles of 6% and plenty of curves. Oh, did I mention the strong tail wind helping your rapid decent.

It might not be as bad as Monarch, but it is enough for me. I did it every night for 6 months, enough to turn the darkest hair grey.

A lot of riders do wear ear plugs, but for the wind noise more than anything.

Similar animals, straight pipes on a truck or a bike.
