You wouldn't if you knew....and that's the point. There have been several major corporate blunders over the years rushing an unfinished / untested product to market.

My fav. is the one from OMC outboards. Suzuki and Honda came to town and stole market share with EFI so OMC threw one together and called it FICHT. Biggest piece of junk ever and the lost sales and warranty work killed the company. Bombardier stepped in and picked up the carcass.

Ford and GM had same issues along with several others. Some other notables were GM's MDS system on the Cadillac in the 80's, New Coke, The 8 speed transmission in toady's Fiesta, GM converted diesel of the 80's, The Maxxforce engine and countless medical devices and drugs.

    Just sayin....

Some people just have bad luck. Does not mean it's junk.

Mine as well as millions of others work great and have been spot on since unboxed and new.
    one of the best investments

The GPS is a tool, just like a flashlight or the atlas or a smartphone. I have one. But I do not depend on it fully. It's merely for reference. The GPS is a bad thing when it's totally relied on.

I'll agree up to a point. The RM Motor Carriers atlas is the best one out there.

Who better than the end user to send in improvement ideas and updates to map data? The drivers that use the product are the best ones to send updates to RM to an ever changing world of speed limits and truck routes. People complain about the lack of updates to the maps and such, but then people complain that the end user needs to help out by sending RM the info.

As for my gps unit, I have the 530. It has worked flawlessly since day one out of the box.

Thinking out loud Tom Tom has the idea with GPS. End users send in new found data and once verified it's added to everyone's map......not sure if RM does this.......so if you find a new road or location everyone will get it.

Map reading is a critical skill in any book. The GPS needs to be a reference, not a knows all.

One more thought...in the event of a major attack on this country, communications are one of the first targets. Without satellites and cells you have nothing but a few pounds of molded plastics on your hip and dash board.

And if you can't read a map.......

I started using the 520 in '08 and bought the 720 a couple years later,,don't even recall why I bought the new on. Anyway, the 520 would freeze up once in a while, just reboot and good to go. The 720, which I am still running now,,has worked flawlessly since I bought it. I even thought I burnt it up one day when I decided to wire it direct. I even went so far as to buy the new 730, which is still in the box with receipt, only to turn out that I didn't need it. I have had not had the problems that a few others have had. I am wondering about the new RM/Android tablet that has come out....

MY GPS hasn't been a bad thing. and it's totally relied on. but i also look for the signs on them city streets. which i don't see often.

my atlas don't get used for mapping. it's used more for informational purposes like state phone numbers and what not.

If you had taken some time and it seems you have had a month or so to look on the support thread I did mention an issue was found after the version was release and a fix has been done. It is QA now.
