In a semi truck, I'm one of the slowest out there. Yes, I've topped out a few semi's before on open stretches of roads but for the most part, I seldom drive over 65mph unless I'm on a really tight schedule and most times I drive 58-63mph. I have one "Top Driver Award" Scored 100% on all my test and two "Top miles" awards....driving below posted speed limits....so I take driving a semi seriously. Likewise in my P/U truck......I seldom drive over 55mph in it. The only time I'll go faster in it is when I'm holding up traffic. Now on a motorcycle (sportbike) I don't think there is a time I've thrown a leg over the saddle and didn't hit triple digits, however I do that on rural roads with no driveways and good visibility or large interstates with at least a couple miles break in the traffic both directions. Never near cars, houses, etc. Also the bike is completely stable up to.....I'd say 115 before you need to more focused and even then they are very stable up to 175mph. Reason being is they don't get light on their feet like a car from wind lift and also since there is only two contact points with the ground (front to back) there is only a see/saw motion or kinda like one axis ( I know there are more) for the dips or inperfections in the road during straight aways, where as in a car or truck with 4 or more wheels to the ground you now have two or more axis so they become more easily upset at higher speeds. So it's all kind of relative to what the vehicle is as to what really is safe.

When I got busted doing 143, I was on my way to Heartland Race Track to do a trackday. I just got home around 1:30am from being on the road, put in a new clutch on the bike, took a two hour nap and then left the house at 5:30am on a Sunday to get to the track by 7:30am. So it was around 5:45 am on a 6 lane highway with no traffic on either side and I did a little high speed test ride. Nobody's life was in danger, not even the cop. The cop was on a overpass. When I slowed down I saw his lights flashing and I pulled over. No big deal.

Third point..... Driving semi's and being a gear head kinda go hand in hand. There is a time and place for everything and Ideally the track would be were gear heads could go and push things to it's limits but in the real world that doesn't happen. Therefore you have to find places out of the way with good visibility to minimize the chance of anybody but yourself getting hurt. The idea of nobody ever pushing the limits is kinda silly. Afterall if everybody on here is ok with NEVER pushing the limits every now and then, well then I guess they would be ok with putting black boxes and speed limiters on every vehicle.....and do away with cars like Vettes, Mustangs, etc, etc.

Exactly :) I can do alot too, but I don't brag about it. Truth is 99 out of 100 drivers think they are good when about 5 are. The definition of good is confused with driving like an idiot and surviving, for now.

When you settle down and get the redneck out of you, then you will be closer to good. Why do you want to beat your vehicles when they cost an arm and a leg?

I had a friend like you when I was younger. He thought he was good with all his power slides, fish tales and high speed. He ended up wrapped around a huge tree. They picked teeth out of the bark.

For the life of me I have never understood why someone would speed like a bat out of hades. I don't care how good you think you are.. Someday it WILL happen an I can only hope that when it does you don't kill someone. Yes I've done stupid stuff. That's part of life. I've had to many friends die or end up hurt because they thought just like you. I have no prob with someone going to a track to do things like this. But I have a MAJOR prob with people doing this stuff on the highways! Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear. But please stay off the roads if your gonna act stupid.

some people are just too full of themselves, ain't they....????

and in the end, all they are doing is showing what fools they really are, yet they continue to drive on our highways....

Late 90's Honda 900rr. I don't know if the cop tagged me powering up or coming back down. That bike would bump the rev limiter around 170 on the speedometer.....so probably more like 165 actual speed. I've had a few other sportbikes but that was the bike I was on that morning. Today I have no more sportbikes. Today I own a Suzuki DR650 (on/off road) mostly for commuting because of the great fuel mileage, but I still play around on it from time to time, take road trips and everything else on it. It will top out around 100mph, plus from 0-70 it's about as fast as a 90's Mustang GT so getting away from cars in the city is pretty easy. It cruises easy at 70-80 but because I have a knobby on the back, both the bike and myself prefer 60-65. Sorry to hijack the thread.

I don't think it's a matter of professionalism as much as self motivation to higher paying jobs. You protect you CDL so you can move up to better companies for better pay and benefits. If you have the need for speed do what I did and take it to the track. I dragged raced a bike for my speed need and drove on the highway the way you should. It paid off in the long run and I ended up at a top company with top pay. You've got to plan you future so you have a very comfortable retirement and can afford the good things in life. If you don't then you're stuck at a low paying job working long hours with problems and headachhes. Or you're stuck at the bottom feeders or an instructor at a CDL school.
