Actually going below the speed of other traffic in any lane other than the right lane is now illegal in several states even if you are going the speed limit unless you are passing another vehicle in the right lane that is going slower! Florida is one of those states!

in 1972 I was driving a 10 wheel dump autocar with a quadbox long b4 most ppl on here got off mommy's knees Owned 4 trucks of my own after that got out in 1986 again long before most of you. Just recently coming back after spending the intervening years running a 90 foot swordfish boat that is where really big boys play So I believe I am more then qualified to comment on the whiners and heroes who think they are doing anything more then a job This isn't reinventing the wheel

This sure went off topic. Into a school yard bully fight.

If I'm traveling at the posted speed limit, then I'm not 'slower traffic', and I have the right to use any lane I choose provided that there is no truck lane restriction. Those who break the law by speeding cannot claim injury by my decision to drive at the posted speed limit. Trucks that have speeds governed below the posted speed limit are another matter entirely.

Can you cite the Florida law and link it for us, please? And can you list those 'several' states that have similar laws? Oh wait, you posted it on the Internet, so It MUST be true.

Without a reference to statute, most would consider this just CB truckstop ramblings.

I am not trying to "gang up" on you windsmith, but you are developing a bad habit if you are mostly using the center lanes. I know a lot of trucks do it, but 85% of the time it is proper to be in the right lane. Don't give me the argument about merging traffic either, if you cannot adjust your speed or move over for merging traffic, your road observation skills need work. You do not have the right to "use any lane you want". Here in america you were taught that we drive on the right except to pass. They even had to put signs up in Texas to remind people of this.

The assumption was made that I don't drive in the right lane 85% of the time. Nobody bothered to ask :)

The point I'm making is that I owe others on the road nothing more than the speed limit. If you want more, then ask and be patient, I'll look for an opportunity to let you get on with your unsafe driving. Maybe I'll make way, or maybe I can't at the moment.

Also, if traffic is heavy enough that I can't move to the center lane to allow for merging traffic and there is not a sufficient acceleration lane to allow incoming traffic to merge at the posted speed limit, then I will travel in the center lane so that I do not have to endure the cost of reducing my speed at every merge.

You old timers seem to think that traffic rules don't apply to you, and that others should drive in a manner that suits you best, regardless of what's most efficient for someone else.

Another one with reading comprehension problems. I said "if you are mostly using center lanes". Just because it is efficient for you doesn't make it right. I know that is how your trainer taught you, so I am not blaming you. Actually, most drivers do this, but it is a bad habit that impedes traffic and makes other drivers compensate for your actions. If you are being passed on the right, you are in the wrong lane.
