Tracking who uses EOBRs

    And you run one and know this for sure? If I go to ON DUTY at a customer, and then I am not on duty later, but forget to change the e-log to OFF DUTY, and then I go back in and change the log to show I was off duty when I was off duty, then how is that alteration to the e-log a violation? This kind of stuff happens all the time with e-logs. A driver stops driving, but forgets to change the elog to off duty or sleeper. The e-log, after a set period of time will revert to ON DUTY from the driving status. Later, the driver realizes he didn't change the e-log to off duty, so he goes in and changes the log to reflect that he was off duty or sleeper and not on duty. Again, how is this alteration against the law? It isn't, and never has been.

    I just shook my head at most of the comments over the last 3 pages. A bunch of accusations about how e-logs work by a bunch of drivers who have never used them. Now that is a real class act. They assume so many things that they have no first hand knowledge will or will not happen with e-logs. Those of us that are using them do not seem to have all the problems that everyone brings up. There is an occasional snag, but not that frequently. I still get my loads where they need to be each and every time, on time, and I go home every weekend, with an occasional stop at the house during the week. All while not being on any form of dedicated run. Not in any way saying that everyone will have the same experience with e-logs, but until they actually do put some time in using them, they really have no clue what and how they work and will work in what they do.

    In a nutshell, they are just frightened of something they do not understand and the unknown. So they lash out at whomever they think they can intimidate. Truly sad to see grown men act in such a way.

    not frightened or lashing out,i guess we are different in that you ran legal your 30 years,i never have,its just the way it was,trucking was the most illegal business to be in all laws were meant to be broken,cops dot puco whoever knew it,look around you at the [drivers] out there today,its sickening,you live in your world me in mine i suppose we will both survive,but im disgusted at what i see and hear from so called drivers

    I have used them. The ONLY benefit I saw to them was proving you are NOT speeding. The only other "benefit" to an EOBR, running 8/2 splits. Makes doing the math alot easier.

    You still can get a "form and manner" violation just as easily with an EOBR for NOT entering in your load/unload, fuel, pre or post trip. You still have to do all of that manually. It won't do it automatically unless the office does it from that end on dispatch. And even THAT is not reliable.

    You can't head over to a shipper/receiver early because it WILL start your 14 hour clock. You had either hope they allow overnight parking and you can spend the night there if you do PRIOR to your break starting.

    Because once you start that 14 hour clock, you don't get to stop it.

    EOBR's, you will be on your console screen constantly making sure you change your duty status every time you sneeze, go to the bathroom etc. I was constantly putting myself on "off-duty" just to go to the bathroom.

    You logged in, it moved you to "on-duty" automatically. You moved the truck closer to the front of the parking lot it moved you to driving then on-duty depending on parameters set by the company.

    If anything, it made running paper that much easier for me as you learned REALLY quick what the requirements were to run a "legal" EOBR.

    But you are always under the pressure to make sure that console reflects exactly what it is you are doing ALL the time.

    I know you can run as many hours on an EOBR as I can on paper. I did it. More than a couple weeks, I had more than 3100-3400 miles on EOBR. But I was attending to that console to do it with due diligence. I got to a receiver/shipper, I was in and out to make sure it got switched to "off-duty" as quickly as possible. I know more than a couple times I went out and switched the box and went back in because it was burning up the 70 hour clock in "on-duty".

    It doesn't change WHAT a driver does. It just changes HOW a driver does it.

    And the DOT is trying to sell us on the fact this is ''safe''.?...Seems like alot more STRESS and B/S......

    MNdriver, I agree with practically everything you say and feel the same way you do about it. This nanny-box here stress me out sooooo much. I used to be more relaxed when I was on paper.
    You know, I read folks here saying that government control is as old as ink, therefore we should get used to it... Really? :biggrin_25510: We should bend over and just take whatever? And we should just learn to "adapt" to whatever those clowns in the office give to us, right? I would like to "adapt" to something better not worse...
    It's very unfortunate so many in this country think like this nowadays. Just get used to it... There's nothing we can do... :biggrin_25513:
    You know, I left the country where I was born and raised and came to America because I was sick and tired of their government, of passivity of people, their ignorance, their complacency and apathy and laziness and cowardice... :biggrin_25513: I used to think that Americans knew how to fight for their interests, they were proactive, they got involved, they were not afraid, they knew how to organize with each other and fight for their well being.... But to my dismay, this has become an illusion. Americans are becoming sheep... similar to the folks from the country I left... :biggrin_2557: Government control here is becoming very scary. :biggrin_2556: And more and more people say, just "adapt", get used to it...

    A lot of this bull about HOS and ELOGs is based on the fallacy that most accidents are committed by tired truck drivers. But we, truck drivers, know that is not true. Most accidents are committed by 4 wheelers. They are the ones putting everybody else in danger and we are the ones to be blamed?! This gotta stop!
    We must change this... We should be denouncing this and demanding a national campaign awareness on TV, schools and everywhere else to educate the public on how to share the road with us. We should demand higher penalties on those 4-wheelers committing infractions instead of us accepting all this garbage rules... :biggrin_25510:
    We should be demanding more places to park in order to comply with HOS... Otherwise not obeying HOS at all.... That's what truck drivers in my country of origin did and government hasn't enforced their HOS so far...
    Unfortunately I, as a female, would not be able to be a truck driver in that "macho" oriented field there besides, there are other negatives...
    Anyway, all I said here is just wishful thinking for it seems that changes to HOS will take effect this year, EOBRs will be mandatory in 2014 and everybody will take it... those who totally refuse will just leave the field... :biggrin_25513: And the new generation of dummies will just play along and be thankful for having a job as a truck driver...
