Thanks for the grounding, blackw900. I lack patience for scum bags. I just wish they had the courage to say half that kind of crap to my face.

kw - why do you think I don't have a job?

scurvy - what would you do if I said something to your face? beat me up? go on a shooting spree? you join the military, wage war on israel's enemies to keep me "safe and free," yet you're practically threatening physical violence against a fellow American who doesn't agree with you.

Physical violence? You watch too much tv and subscribe to too many liberal journals. Yeah if you said half of that crap to me or even mentioned anything negative about my beloved Marine Corps to me, I would whip your ###. You call that physical violence? It's not physical violence, it's me putting you in your place. You cross my line and I'll put you back over it in a heartbeat. That is what is wrong with this country. We cant even put our own people in their place without fear of some stupid outrageous lawsuit. Back when this country was founded, thats how they handled things. Thats how I handle things. And you are not my fellow American. You just happen to share the same citizenship as me. Our likeness ends there.

Scurvydog, thank you for your service to our country. Without our Soldiers and Marines we would not be free and we should not take that for granted.

Let's not get get too sidetracked these online arguments never end. People always say things online they would never say in person. No point in getting mad about it.

This is an interesting thread about the pay that drivers receive compared to other blue collar professions. I am a non union dock worker making a living wage for busting my tail 45-50 hours a week, but the consolation for my aching back is that I am paid for every minute the company requires me to be on duty...whether I am busting my behind or sitting in a meeting drinking coffee.

Meanwhile, it seems a driver paid by mileage is accepting a situation similar to a salaried employee, in that one must work however many hours (legally) it takes to get the task accomplished.

I have always thought these sorts of compensation packages must benefit the company at the expense of the employee, otherwise why would the company not pay hourly.

    I mean...Time = Money...right?

"we'll put a boot up your ####, it's the American way." LOL and we wonder why we're hated so much? you're not helping the stereotype.

liberal journals? a liberal I am not, I can assure you. I'm not your fellow American either? that's fine, and real patriotic. yeh, you might "put me in my place," where ever that is. but I wouldn't sue. you also might find yourself taking a dirt nap. irrational, bone headed bullies like you are a dying breed, thank goodness. and if you haven't payed much attention lately, the world doesn't tolerate bullying too well any more.

Chief, never found any of your posts regarding trucking topics, even if you weren't a long time, experienced driver, disagreeable. That being said, I hope you are never here in Salisbury and I overhear you say something similar.

I've done my time, and proud of it, I've got a brother currently in Afghanistan and a son who just left there. I don't have a college degree, didn't finish my 4th year, brother has a masters, and son a BS. But I'm sure your smarter than all of us.

To keep this on topic, figuring job pay in trucking is sort of a waste of time. Too many other factors, like job satisfaction, stress level, whatever. For me, as an example, if I gross $400. per week, my wife and I can just stay on budget, one that doesn't allow much in the way of extras. I make that at the local factory job that I just started at. To make that at Swift, the only company that will take me on with no recent experience, I'd have to get 1500 miles a week. Probably do-able. I thought I'd give the factory job a shot, just to be home daily. Well, the job sucks, it's boring as hell, and I have to work 2nd shift to make that $400. So I'm going to head back to the road. If I can gross what I need, and enjoy doing it (flatbed), than that weighs into the pay factor. If I get more miles, that's just a plus.

If you enjoy what you are doing, and making enough of a pay check, why would you need to try and figure out how much per hour you are making?
