I have a padlock but the silly thing is that someone can easily cut the part of the trailer that holds the lock together. If I back up really close to the wall they won't be able to get behind the trailer.

I wouldn't worry about the trailer, the wall is a different story. Just get it close without actually touching.

Usually you'll just have power to one wheel at a time. Locking in more isn't a good idea on the highway. If you trying to get out of a slick parking lot or climbing a slick grade you'll want to use them but applying power or corners can have bad results.

OK thanks won't use it anymore then. So that is only for when my tires are spinning on gravel or mud eh?

That is what I am trying to do, prevent someone from opening doors.

Except, don't lock the Differential WHILE THE WHEELS ARE SPINNING.
So, basically make sure you are completely stopped when you flip the switch.

Yes I can, I just wonder if I did hit the wall if it would damage my trailer.

You don't have to be stopped, as long as both axles are turning the same speed, like running down the road, now, if your stuck and only one tandem is spinning DO NOT flip the switch as you will tear something up..

gotta get in the habit of always making as soft a contact as possible,

you can do lotsa damage with hard hits including to concrete walls, the rubber bumpers wear out and eventually fall off,

even a soft hit could get ugly if a wall/dock was smacked good prior
