I had problems with my flight physical last year because the EKG machine would register an error if my pulse was under 50. The girl messin with the machine couldn't understand it. Did some jumping jacks to get my heart rate over 50 and it was fine. Always had a low resting heart rate.

    OK..here you go:

One night around 0100, got a call from answering service, they needed my help to make a removal from one of the old folks care homes since the owners son (Kevin) was out on a coroners removal 40 miles up Hwy 50. They didn't know when he would be back, so they needed my help. I got dressed and went down to the mortuary got the call car, and proceeded to the care home. The whole thing only took less than an hour.

When i got back to the mortuary, body in back, snug as a rug on the guerney, the other call car was neatly parked in the garage. Kevin was back, so I had to move his unit out of the way since the prep room is through the garage. (Out of sight from passers by...they get quezzy when you pull a body from the back of a station wagon..who'd of thought?) As I got in the car to back it out, I noticed it was exceptionally cold...well not cold, but cool in the garage, it was supposed to be heated, so I thought maybe the heater had cut out or something minor like that...better to be cool in a mortuary than stifling hot I guess..I backed the wagon out, and brought my call car in and proceeded to move my body into the prep room.

Closed the garage door, then walked back to open the door to the prep room. The prep room has two porcelain embalming tables, and the normal equipment found in a mortuary, and tonight, it also has one body on the farthest table, waiting for autopsy in the morning. An autopsy was required as this was a victim of a vehicle accident. As I reached around the corner to switch on the lights, a rush of COLD air went right up my long sleeve shirt...goose bumps popped on my arm, and the hair on the back of my neck stood straight up..(just like right now..every time I tell this story).

For some reason, I backed out quickly, just didn't know what to make of this occurance. I went into the office to get a cup of coffee, and try to figure out what just happened. As I was sitting with my coffee, there was a loud knock at the back door to the office...scared the living bejeezus out of me of course. But it was the investigating deputy, he forgot to get pictures of the accident victim for his report. I let him in and over a cup of coffee, I told him what had just happened to me. He was a jovial kind of guy, and just scoffed at me, and started kidding around about ghosts and such in a mortuary.

So, now with armed backup, I mustered the courage to go back into the prep room. The deputy was kind enough to offer to reach in and turn on the lights, he reached in, and then jumped back and hollered at me accusing me of turning the temperature down to zero in the room. Plus he was a strange shade of white around his eyes, nose, and mouth. His usuall color (especially his nose area, is rosy red...rosacia is the term) was gone, and the look on his face, almost comical since he just got finished teasing me about ghosts. He was dead (excuse the pun) serious, and scared himself. We went back and had an extraordinarily quiet cup of coffee in the office.

About 30 minutes pass, we, together, decide we are men after all, nothing to be afraid of, and proceed into the prep room. I opened the door all the way, got blasted by that cold air again, but this time, we go in...no light, just go in...maybe two steps each. Above the farthest table is a floating, glowing, not quite form...a spirit, a soul, A GHOST!

The hair on the backs of our necks are stiff as a board, the goose bumps have layers, not a sound, nothing....since nothing is really happening we proceed to move my body in on the first table...and get the Polaroid to take the deputies pictures. As we remove the sheet that is covering the accident deceased we see a note from Kevin...he says in his note, he is not touching this body for any reason, and he can be found at the local bar, "The Hangman's Tree" in downtown Placerville....hhmmmmmm wonder why?

Well we turned the lights on to get the pictures, and I proceeded to get the fingerprints of the lady done for the deputy, as I handed him the print cards and pictures, I turned around to hand him the things, but he was gone from the prep room. Out to the office and I found him having a cup of coffee, looking strikingly grey. I asked him what the problem was...he said, in a very shaky and scared voice..that the image of the fog, or ghost, or spirit looked exactly like the victim...this image stayed with the body even after the autopsy was complete...it did not disappear until the ladies family had come to say goodbye!

The owner of the mortuary pulled me and the deputy aside and told us this was not the first time he had heard of this...many morticians have this same experience...the only explanation is...our souls don't continue on until we are done with what is important to us here on the physical earth...she had to say goodbye to her husband and two daughters.
