When it comes to some things this industry says the government needs to stay out of our business. But now you and others think the government should step in to help you get more money from a private business transaction. Maybe OOIDA will push and push and the transparency crap will be all bundled up in a nice package that also includes a speed limiter bill and maybe a general liability increase to $5mil or so. Because the government is always so helpful when they step in.
Maybe they should. But more adequate question to ask here is if they should, if they could. The odds are, if they could then they would. Same goes here. Transparency is not a new subject for discussion in trucking. OOIDA stands for it. And I don't mind it at all.
Are we discussing the transparency or not? Speed limters are not helping my livelihood but the transparency won't hurt it. I don't see why all of a sudden I have to agree with anything that the government might impose. Why not selecting what is good from what is not good?
Do you really believe that OOIDA cares what happens to truckers? They've become a big business of their own. When was the last time that OOIDA really took a strong stand on anything that was of benefit to drivers? They can say anything they want to. That's just posturing. I want to know what they've done and if their member's lives are better for it.
And is it that so different from how things are done in any other business that is regulated: licenses, concessions, quotas, etc? If you can sway the government in your favor...why not use it?
They do what they can. And I like to hear what they say. That's itself is worth $40 or whatever... It is not like I can find anything better than them.
No. I'll pass. I'm all right. But if I am offered the information about what shippers pay, I'll take it. Mind you, I don't mean to steal anything...or anything like that.
