Yes you did know or yes you didn't know? Or is it: No you didn't know or something like that. Multiple ways to answer the question because of the way it was asked. Yeah I know I'm a donkey' behind.

Use to be you could have a person sign a paper relieving you in case of an accident, BUT... that did not cover them driving. Truly hope the best for you, but I'm sure the water is about to get muddy.

The only voice of reason I have seen so far in this thread.
Insurance company's insure vehicles not people.
That's why insurance cards have vehicle vin numbers on them not the social security number of the driver.

You might want to check your insurance policy more carefully, just as with personal vehicle insurance there are stipulations depending on what you pay for.

I do not understand why anyone is hiring anyone without having a lawyer in the first place. Are people that cheap?

Why would you ask non attorneys for legal advice? I'm not a lawyer, but I did sleep in a sleeper last night.

Want to know the absolute amazing thing? The person at fault was driving a CMV without a CDL and the po po let him go. Unbelievable. I am surprised that they didn't arrest him and make him post bond.

If he knew that person was in his truck, he would have to have him insured. If he didn't have the rider insured, his insurance company is going to nail him. If he did, throw that driver under the bus ASAP. I would definitely lawyer up.

Insurance may pay then if his driver let a friend drive the truck without the owner knowing. Maybe insurance will sue the driver and the guy driving. Assuming the owner gave permission for the rider and had the extra insurance for rider. That paper the rider would sign and the driver of the truck, would probably say something about only the employee is only one allowed to drive the truck. Then the insurance company can sue the driver and the rider. Because the owner did everything he could possibly do. Then it all falls into the driver for letting someone drive the truck that was not allowed.
