Don't mean to sound like one of those crazy truckes, but FMCSA rules are heavily influenced by larger companies, that band together, specifically it seems; to make it harder for the small guy.
I realize the need to make the nations roads safer and easier to travel, and having truckers comply to basic rules can help this. However, the federal DOT has overstepped it's bounds, several dozen times in the past 7 years. We need this to stop.

Thankfully, certain organizations are stepping up to the plate. Yes, the senate froze the bill that would suspend the more recent 34 hour changes, but I can't help but feel that it's going to come back- there are several (R) and even a few (I) senators very interested in pushing this bill through. A very wide majority of Republican senators are expected to support this bill. Our Democratic patriots elected into office by low information voters, will surely oppose it. Aftertall; truckers are rolling serial killers, right?

I don't want to make this a political discussion. There's a sub-forum for that. I don't want this to spawn any further than that. I'm simply stating facts.

BUT, we must realize that certain political parties...do not like us...And these are the same ones screaming for DOT to enforce stricter legislation upon us.

Drivers, contact your senators, congressmen and even governors (Yes, Governor. He/She has a lot of power) and make it clear, you support truckers. Be them independent, companied, leased- whatever it may be; make it clear, we're on the tipping point of this abuse.

 

Couldnt of said it better glad to see i'm not the only one whos tired and refuse to take it anymore.

 

11 hours to drive, 1 hour for the other stuff leaves a driver 2 hours to do what he wants like take a nap if sleepy.

This guy is line haul. He does the same job every day. He sleeps the same time every day. Except for this time he was sick, stayed up late or had a night on the town. It had nothing to do with the regulations.

 

Before starting your engines take a look at the Qualcomm and ask the following questions:

1) How many hours do I have left to drive?
2) How many hours will it take me to go to my destination?

If (2) is less than (1) and you don't feel fatigued then go for it.

But....

If (1) is less than (2) then don't drive. Call dispatch and tell them you can't make it. Take a ten hour break and run it when you're ready.
Or....
Plan your trip accordingly to make sure you have somewhere safe to stop before you run out of hours.

This is not rocket science. Since I have a pea brain it takes me five minutes to figure this out. It should take you less.

Note::
If you spend your 10 hour break time cavorting around like a feral cat then you have no one to blame but yourself if you end up killing someone with your big truck.

but it certainly curtails your ability to drive when rested and sleep when tired

the other day, i started out at 0500, drove two hours to get unloaded, another two hours to pick up the new load, got jerked around at the shipper for about five hours, took a two hour nap afterwards,, and then drove till midnight (home) woke up about 0500, drove another 100miles to deliver, and went back home

you cant do that with elogs

the whole time i was rested, but not legal

this is the problem,, elogs take the responsibility away from the driver and put it on a computer

thats why it IS the devil everyone makes it out to be

 

How about letting the investigation run its process before throwing a driver under the media bus...

I don't care what the media says, On TTR we are above that non sense and it's a small drivers world ( 6 degrees of each of us knowing a driver )
