Me too... I like to drive as fast as my governed truck will go (69mph) but in the end patience wins the day.
If you're going 3mph faster than the other truck, it shouldn't take you very long to pass. On the other hand, if you swing out into the left lane and are taking more than 30 seconds to reach the other truck's underride barrier, YOU should look in your mirror for traffic behind you and, if possible, get back into the right lane. I'm glad that I have plenty of pedal left, on cruise, to pass Johnny D if he decides to try to waste his 'driver rewards' to keep me from passing him.
What sucks is backing off only to catch the driver again because they won’t simply help another driver out. Most of the time for 70 mph plus trucks it’s not much of a problem, still sucks though.
One truck I had in 1998 was 72. Fast enough to run legal then 70 mph states and a little extry to get out of 63 mph herds. Useful in Virginia in the far left lane at times in rush and so on. No troubles. Just loping along making time.
Agreed, I your truck is governed at 63, and shouldn’t be doing 63! You should never push your truck to its limits! JMO
For some reason when we are rookies our heads are ingrained with the incorrect notion that we all need to have the hammer down 100% of the time. This creates so many problems and doesn’t even really save much if any time in the long run. i was the exact same way when I was a rookie. This is why you have situations like the OP described, and also how many of you have seen this happen... you are driving 58-ish in a 55 and CR England blows by you at his governed speed of 65. Then you get on the big road and climb up to 70-75 and now the bonehead is in your way. Meanwhile, the idiot never even took his foot off the hammer. That #### drives me crazy. But to his defense, that is likely exactly how his trainer taught him to drive. I have taught myself over the years to not be in such a #### rush all the time. There is no point in it. My truck now will do over 75 (not sure where the governor is, I haven’t found it yet) but I keep it at around 70 unless i am passing someone (rare but it does happen). At the end of the day I get my work done with plenty of time to spare, and I am not not all worn out and agitated and grumpy like all the peddle to the metal super truckers (idiots) who rushed themselves all day.
The truck behind that stupid person passing you might be able to drive at like 70-75. So if you come off your cruise just a little to help dummy get past you, that truck stuck behind him will thank you, because you saved him more time than you would have saved yourself by not coming off cruise at all. Think about that poor fellow behind dummy.
I'm in trouble then because my truck is governed at 65 and I keep it locked at that speed 99.9% of the time on the interstate If my truck could go 70 then that's how fast I would go most of the time, depending on situation. If you cant travel that fast that's fine, its not your fault. But don't slow other drivers because your truck is slower or because you think everyone should move at your slow speed.
