Hi, I am not sure if this is the place to post this but I will give it a shot. I have recently been working very hard towards getting my CDL. I have gone through all the appropriate steps in order to receive my permit but I have been put on hold do to a 1 year regular licence requirement that Utah regulations have required for every applicant. My question is if anyone here knows if I put my place of residence in another state to get my permit or if I go to an out of state CDL school what will happen once I try to transfer that to my home state (utah)? I'm also wondering if there is anyway around this obstacle. I quit my job after passing the physical in order to pursue trucking as my career and now my entire life is on hold until October. I am looking for any advice so please give me anything you got. Thank you!

1. How old are you?
2. You probably can't get a CDL in another state unless you reside there and have a regular driver's license from that state. So you'd have to move and get a license there.
3. Even if you manage to get your CDL, lack of driving experience would be an obstacle for many potential employers.. -
3. I am getting my CDL through a company that guarantees employment with them so finding a job wont be an issue at all. -
Those guarantees come with limitations.

I was a legal resident of Alabama (had regular Alabama driver license) and went to St Louis, MO to CDL school. Got my permit & unrestricted Class A CDL issued in MO (using CDL school's physical address and my own - their way, not mine). I guess this is the way they had always done it. Also, that particular CDL school had on-site housing and served 2 meals / day. Guess I was technically "living" there. Anyway, got home to AL, transferred license back to home state no problem. Granted this was a little over 15 years ago, but that's how it worked out for me. Hope this helps.

If you "already learned" it, then why say "finding a job won't be any issue".

Utah, AZ, CA, IN, PA are all reciprocal with each other, and the 5 hardest states.
You get CDL in one of those states, go to any other state, and they will issue you one, just a formality.
You get one from any other state, go to one of those 5, and you will be required to take the ENTIRE CDL test over, including pre trip ,obstacles, and driving.SmallSon Thanks this.
