Volvo d13 2012 water separator is black after 3000 miles driving wath can be the problem

After reading your post, I noticed this morning my water separator filter kind of black not as bad . I just asked the shop foreman at Vomac in Indiana , he said never seen this symptoms for bad cups/injectors , only hard start lose of power and believes could be rubber from fuel hoses.

 

That is what I was thinking too Johny41. First time seeing the water/separator become contaminated with soot.

 

Mladen86, posted about same isue 4 years ago, from what I understand it's injector issue.
I replaced the injectors 4 times on my last truck but all o remember is long cranking, maybe I didn't pay attention to the water separator.

copper washer around the end of injector keeps combustion gas from entering the cup area full of fuel.

Leaking copper lets soot get into the fuel supply..... The cup isn't bad !! .. Only the copper, they are cheap .

 

I go to speedgo for oil analyse yesterday and they change the water separator filter, they sayis i have algie in the fuel sistem. They drained the fuel and this was on the botom.

Here's what a copper washer looks like..... You can see it seals the shoulder of the injector around the tip.

This keeps combustion gas from getting past the nozzle which protrudes into the cylinder.

This is all inside the injector cup... Once combustion gasses get past the nozzle, they travel up into the cup, into the fuel area ....


Hopefully biocide fixes your issue but my guess is that it won't. Keep up posted..
