A long time ago I had an 04 Volvo VNL670 company truck that had a solo wire with an inline fuse inside the battery box that was for the ECM. Somehow the wire connections into that fuse box got loose and the truck died while driving on a 2 lane highway doing 55 mph but luckily I got it safely to the shoulder. Nothing the company shop suggested I check located the problem so I ended up getting towed lol.. The shop I was dropped at quickly found and solved the problem. Maybe this could be your problem I dunno. Good luck!

What was the problem?
I've had starter-rebuild places rebuild the starter on a 2012 D13 and give it back with the wrong relay. They'll say, "Oh, don't worry. That ought to work." When you put the starter in and try to crank, a fuse blows -- and there's no cranking! You're stranded. When this happened to me I got on the phone to Delco Remy the next morning and they advised the relay was wrong. The rebuild shop got the right one and the problem was gone. I am not sure about the distinctions but it may have been an overcrank-protection relay versus a standard relay that you would've expected on that particular starter if it were on a Kenworth or some other chassis.
As a side note, on that model year, forget about finding a relay on the firewall. That's ancient history. I believe the Vehicle ECU has a pin for key crank, and it sends a signal to the ECM for the cranking to actually happen -- via the relay at the starter.
As another side note, when they got the right relay and I was sure I didn't have to remove the rebuilt starter, I was thrilled. Those starter bolts are a B**** to remove and install! Just like the compressor on a D13. The way I handled it was to have about 3 feet of extensions on my ratchet and start the innermost starter nut from the fan shroud, because you couldn't get in any other way. . . . . And the minute I got done with that starter, I decided to inspect some of the coolant lines to the DEF dosing nozzle and the second I touched one, it crumbled in my hand and coolant began dumping everywhere, including in my face. Fixed one problem and caused another.
