The state law says for all passengers.

Although I agree with you in principle that should not be an all encompassing blanket statement. How many times have you been driving along and encounter a snow storm, so you slow to a reasonable speed, only to have four wheelers all backed up not knowing which lane to be in a 20mph with no lights on? I think I would much rather be around them in "space" and let the rolling accident happen to someone else.
JMHO.

"Trucks shouldn't be "going with the flow" at any time or place."
If trucks didn't do this, you'd see even more accidents as frustrated 4 wheelers drove even worse than they do now....joseph1135 and Wingnut1 Thank this. -
Woah, what?? You claim to be or have been a driver. If that were true, then you'd know that split speeds, trucks that are regulated to 10-15 mph slower than the rest of the traffic is not only stupid but causes more congestion and MORE ACCIDENTS. Moving with the flow of traffic increases safety.

Absolutely correct, had three trucks rear ended in 20+ years, TWO of them by cars, and the trucks were in the slow lane doing speed limit! Both on interstates and both in split limit states.AfterShock and joseph1135 Thank this.

California is the worst. That's a 15 mph difference in the cars and trucks and there's all kinds of "near misses" on 5 and 15 and 80. And then it's 10 mph difference on 58, 99, etc. There's no good reason for split speeds but especially not 15 mph. That's insane and dangerous. I run a lot in Cali, it's amazing there's not more accidents from the 15 mph difference.Boy Howdey, KANSAS TRANSIT and AfterShock Thank this.

State law does not stipulate who was wearing a seat belt in this crash, and AFAIK no report states same.
-
You wanted a link to the law. Provided.
You want information on who was restrained, look it up.
Most likely, even if not restrained, since a commercial vehicle is involved, there will be no ticket issued to those not wearing seatbelts. They will look the other way.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
Both of ours happened in Illinois when trucks were 55, cars were I believe 65 BUT most cars were running 70+ so yes, over a 15 mph difference. Both accidents happened because a car that was running 70+ was passing a car in the hammer lane at 65+ and tried to pass in the slow lane, not taking into account the slower speeds of the trucks.
As most drivers here have noticed, there seems to be a LOT of people that have a real problem judging "speed and distance" if you need an example park on a frontage road and watch the cars "trying" to merge with traffic, and I use the term merge lightly!joseph1135 Thanks this.
