And nice to meet and speak with you Ricks Wife
, Bill has not started orientation yet but got the call from HR and they are waiting on 1 other person to finish up his paperwork, not sure of the class size yet, they wanted 7 and his friend got his first call on Wed of this week and 2nd call on Friday( 2 days) to take his PTI and Driving Test this Monday almost 6 weeks from Bills first call, should be happening soon, Bill just needs to give 2 weeks notice, he has been gone a lot sometimes 2-3 weeks at times but we take it as it is given and are thankful for what we have and what little time we have together right now, I am thankful to Walmart for this new oppurtunity he has been given, we spent 2 weeks together and went home to Maine this July, we are both from Maine, we talked about moving back home on the way back, the day we got home he recieved the first call from Walmart, it may happen in the next few years if we decide to transfer, 1 thing at a time, the only thing I think Bill will miss is the ferry rides he manages to find at least twice a year, he was in the Coast Guard for 6 years on Ice Breakers, last month he went to Labrador, a 5 hr ferry ride 1 way, actually he has been to every province but 1, Nunuvat, we are more than ready to spend 2 or 3 days together a week, I hope you and your family are well and wish you all health and happiness, Beck

drozzer69, Extreme4x4 and noninetofive Thank this. -
As far as I know they were both for family reasons. The newer driver was part of my class and when I saw his picture gone, I called him and asked what happened. He resigned respectfully to be home with his son more. He does have plans to return when it is more convenient for his family. We do hate to see great drivers leave for reasons like this but your family needs are always priority.
On a lighter note, congrats Bill and Welcome aboard sir!noninetofive and billthetrucker Thank this. -
Yes I heard also he didn't want to be gone so much.. People need to realize that Walmart is a great job. But it's that a job. They expect you to be gone 4 or more nights a week.. And the other driver not sure why he left'. I heard why but not from him. So I won't say.. If you're looking for a Great Trucking Job.. Walmart is hard to beat

Thanks, Drozzer. Can't wait to get started. Hanging out in a T/S in Minot, SD. I won't get home till Sunday AM, then take off Monday AM. Can't wait for the 6/3. My wife might start getting tired of seeing me so much... And those honey-do lists are gonna be a little more extensive...Extreme4x4, drozzer69 and noninetofive Thank this. -
As to why some drivers quit We have the lowest turnover rate in the industry but some things do effect drivers to the point that they decide that it isn't worth it. First is the orientation. We have had so many changes in the past 20 years. Us "old guys" have had a gradual change and have had to adapt slowly. New guys get in to orientation and are simply overwhelmed by amount of information that is thrown at them and think, "I just want to drive a truck I didn't sign up for this." We have had several guys leave orientation. Another is working every weekend. There are less and less positions open for Sun - Thrs, Mon - Fri and Tues - Sat. At my DC, they have told us that as older drivers retire, those slots will be removed instead of filled, so that there is less and less chance of ever getting a slot that has at least one weekend day off. It is a shame, but people shop on the weekend, so retail has to work weekends. I am blessed that I have always been able to work Mon - Fri. No so with new guys. And lastly, guys living too far from the DC. A lot of guys say and believe that they are able to get a job 750 miles away and make it work. It can be said easier than done. It is terrible on family life and the cost of commuting or having a place to crash near the DC can eat up the extra $$ that the job pays. I am blessed to have started here when I did. I will have 25 years next March.

I hear Walmart will now only hire if you live less than 250 miles from the DC you will be working out of. I guess driving from GA to DE and then running for 14 hours isn't acceptable anymore. Will this affect any of you guys and will they let you relocate to a closer DC? Thanks and Have a Good Day.

When I hired in you didn't have to micro-manage everything. They hired only the best.. They could be pickier.... Of course the private fleet has doubled since I was hired. 1999
